Channel Islands YMCA

Channel Islands YMCA The Y is the nation's leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth develop, healthy living, and social responsibility.

We are a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.

Today, we honor Juneteenth — a day of freedom, reflection, and celebration.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in the United States learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

At the YMCA, we believe in building communities where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to thrive. As we celebrate Juneteenth, we recognize the ongoing importance of equity, inclusion, and creating opportunities for all.

💡 Did you know? Father's Day has roots at the YMCA!

In 1910, the very first Father's Day celebration was held at the Spokane YMCA after Sonora Smart Dodd sought to honor her father, a single parent who raised six children on his own. With the support of the YMCA and local community leaders, a tradition was born that continues more than 100 years later.

At the YMCA, we're proud to continue that legacy by creating opportunities for families to connect, grow, and thrive together.

Happy Father's Day from the Channel Islands YMCA!

For nearly 140 years, the Channel Islands YMCA has been part of the communities we call home, and that is something we are incredibly proud of.
Still, not everyone knows the full story of who we are, what we do, and the communities we serve. That is why we put together this short video to share more about the impact of the Y across our region.
How has the Y made a difference in your life or your family’s life? Share your story in the comments below.
