🔑Who holds the keys to Carpinteria’s Future?

On April 9, an out-of-town developer will tell you that they hold the keys to our future. They will also tell you that they wish to build 191 luxury homes 🏠🏠🏠🏠on the Bluffs, because it’s in our best interest. They will say “affordable housing,” “open space,” “trails,” “buffers,” “thoughtful design.”

They will say they know what we need better than we do.🙅🏻‍♂️🙅🏼‍♀️

Carpinteria is special because of its open space, because we decided to protect the Carpinteria Bluffs. 🌱🌻🌸🌱No amount of buzz words will change what makes Carpinteria special and why we love it here.

The truth is that the land where this developer wishes to add 191 luxury homes is a terrible spot for development. They know it. That’s why there’s a private presentation on April 9 designed to change your opinion of what matters.👎🏼

Please show up, ask questions, and most importantly, come say hello to the Citizens for the Carpinteria Bluffs. We’ll be there too.👋🏽

🙅🏻‍♂️🙅🏽‍♀️Erasing open space by building luxury homes benefits the developer.

You will hear a lot about the need to increase housing and affordability. 🏠🏠 We agree that increasing housing in Carpinteria could help with affordability.

However, placing luxury homes with price points in the $5-10 million dollar range adjacent to a prized Nature Preserve doesn’t get the job done. It degrades Carpinteria’s public spaces and creates a private luxury enclave. 👎🏼

We need to save our Sacred Open Undeveloped Land (S.O.U.L.) for future generations. 🌳🌱🌳🌱

You’ll hear a lot from the developer about what Carpinteria needs. 🗣️

We don’t need to be told what we need. Generations of Carpinterians have been very clear. We need all of the Carpinteria Bluffs to be preserved forever. 🙌🏽

🗓️ The developer is holding an event on April 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carpinteria Community Church on Vallecito Road. Join to visibly demonstrate what we want, need and desire.

Citizens for the Carpinteria Bluffs is holding its twenty-eighth annual Sunrise Ceremony on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 7 AM at the Mishopshno Meadow of the Carpinteria Bluffs. The Citizens group suggests that early risers wishing to attend the dawn event should plan to arrive at he meadow by 6:45 AM.

In partnership with Chumash descendant Julie Tumamait-Stenslie, Citizens for the Carpinteria Bluffs has been holding this annual spring spiritual observance since 1999. As she has done in the past, Tumamait-Stenslie invites other members of the Chumash community as well as members of the general public to join her and the Citizens group in this annual gathering
of celebration. She encourages participants to bring a poem, story, or song to share in the language of their ancestors.
