This summer, over 200 refugee and other immigrant kids experienced a safe, fun environment of belonging and learning. Thank you to all of the volunteers and partner churches who helped make it happen!

Now the school year is upon us, and we are looking for volunteer tutors who can continue supporting these students through the school year.

Please learn more about our volunteer opportunities at the link in the comments.

The welcome and belonging you have shown to refugees and other displaced people in Chicagoland means so much, especially when we consider the bigger picture of global displacement.

Even as refugee resettlement to the United States remains closed as a lifeline to people in protracted crisis situations who need it most, World Relief continues to work alongside local churches to bring healing and stability in countries like DRC, South Sudan, Ukraine, and others.

Joy is powerful. 💛 When immigration rhetoric and polcies are harsh, moments like this mean even more.

This week, staff members, friends and World Relief families gathered for a picnic in the park, a day filled with laughter, conversation, soccer games, crafts, henna and even a few water balloons!

It was a beautiful reminder that when we come together, we create spaces where everyone can feel valued and comfortable.

Thank you for making these moments possible. 💛

Churches and community members across Chicagoland are coming alongside refugee and immigrant neighbors like Basheer as they build skills, confidence, and stability through English language learning.

Today, Basheer is putting those skills to work at his job at a local coffee shop in Chicagoland—you might even bump into him there!

In Jordan, Wedad was a pharmacist. In the U.S., she was a beginner again.

So she started over. A new language. New coursework. A new plan, one step at a time. She kept her eye on the goal.

Wedad starts pharmacy classes to regain her certification this August.

“If you are patient, you will get somewhere, and you will be successful in some way.” – Wedad

Sometimes we get these questions: Why does World Relief talk about immigration? Are we picking a political side?

Matt Soerens speaks to some of those questions in this video — our advocacy is not rooted in a party or political platform. It is rooted in our faith.

Scripture calls us to love our neighbors, welcome the stranger and seek justice for people who are vulnerable. So when policies affect immigrants, refugees and other people facing difficult circumstances, we speak up.

If you'd like to recieve advocacy email updates from our team in Chicagoland, see the link in the comments!
