October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
• About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
• (2026): An estimated 321,910 women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. this year.
• Approximately 42,140 women in the U.S. are expected to die from the disease in 2026, making it second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death in American women.
•When caught in its earliest localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%.
•Major health organizations recommend annual mammograms starting at age 40 for women at average risk.
CDC's National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) provides breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic services to women who have low incomes and are uninsured or underinsured.
You may be eligible for free or low-cost screenings if:
*You have no insurance, or your insurance does not cover screening exams.
*Your yearly income is at or below 250% of the federal poverty level.
You are age 40 to 64 for breast cancer screening or 21 to 64 for cervical cancer screening. (Certain women who are younger or older may qualify for screening services.)
For more information and to find screening near you, click here: https://www.cdc.gov/breast-cervical.../about/screenings.html

GFWC’s International Day of Service project this year is to combat domestic and s*xual violence. The Rotary Club of Carol Stream generously partnered with us to pack bags of both essentials and fun items for women in the shelters. We even had support from as far away as Tennessee - Jen’s mom Susan made the beautiful tags and note cards for the bags! The bags came out great, and we hope these brighten the days of these strong, amazing women.

🍂 Fall flavors have officially arrived at Astrid’s Kitchen! Cooler weather, cozy sweaters, and soups simmering on the stove . . . nothing pairs better than a slice of her seasonal sourdough. Or, start your chilly morning with a pumpkin spice bagel.

And if you’re making homemade chili or a hearty soup, her sourdough bread bowl is the perfect cozy companion.

Pre-order your favorites and make these chilly days a little yummier. Order by Wednesday, September 30, for Saturday, October 3, pickup. Or, visit Astrid's Kitchen at the Bloomingdale Maker's Market on Sunday, September 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
