Please take this storm seriously. Snow rates of 1-2" per hour mean possible white-out conditions.

For the safety of our hard working Public Works crew's, Do Not park on the street during snow storms. Parked cars and blizzard conditions makes plowing the streets very dangerous.

Storm round one is coming. We have a tornado watch in effect until 10pm and a high wind advisory until 1pm tomorrow. Be careful!

[1:30 PM CDT - Friday 3/31/2023]
The first round of severe thunderstorms is quickly approaching! Expect storms to arrive in the next hour or so for areas southwest of the Chicago metro which will then quickly race to the northeast across the area through ~6 PM. All severe weather threats are possible with this round of storms including damaging winds, large hail, and even tornadoes. The fast storm speeds will limit the amount of time to take action so be ready to move to your safe place! Another round still expected this evening too!

Be careful today. Power outages are possible with these storms. Have multiple ways of being able to get weather alerts.

Latest update. Please be careful, check on your neighbors and don't park on the streets when plows are out. Remember road isn't effective in low temperatures. The streets will be slippery.

Good luck to our 1st Responders...the next 24-36 hours will be tough. Thank you for the sacrifices you will be making to keep us safe! 🧡 PW 💙 PD ❤ FD

[6:15 AM CST Thursday December 22nd]

Periods of whiteout (blizzard) conditions are likely today through Friday night, especially in open areas. North to south oriented roads will be the most susceptible to more frequent blizzard conditions and large snow drifts due to strong winds from the west-northwest gusting as high as 50 to 55 mph.

With wind chills as low as 35 to 40 below zero late tonight through Friday morning, getting stranded in these conditions can be deadly! Avoid non-essential travel if at all possible. If you must travel, let loved ones know of your plans and pack an emergency kit in your vehicle.

A Blizzard WARNING is in effect for Porter County, Indiana from 3pm this afternoon through 6am Saturday.

Please take this seriously and prepare before Wednesday. Power outages are certainly possible.

Please Please Please don't park overnight from Thursday until the final storm clean-up by the plows. These conditions are extremely dangerous for everyone especially our plow drivers.

Be safe and be prepared!

❄️Weather forecasts call for a substantial winter storm to hit the area Thursday and Friday, with the possibility of extending into Saturday. It is too early to tell which areas in the Chicago-area will be hardest hit, but forecasters agree we will see very cold temperatures and strong winds. As a result we are expecting drifting snow and possible white-out conditions. Public Works crews are actively preparing equipment and will begin applying anti-icing material to the streets starting on Tuesday.

Stay tuned to Carol Stream’s social media outlets as updated forecast information becomes available.

Be careful out there today.

ICYMI: Roads, sidewalks, parking lots, and other flat surfaces will become icy this afternoon and evening. You may not notice the ice developing since it won't be pouring rain. Slow down and increase following distances. 🚗 ↔️ 🚗 ↔️ 🚗

[7:27 AM CST Saturday, January 1]

A winter storm will move into the area towards the late morning and early afternoon and drop a swath of 4 to 9 inches of snow across most of northern Illinois and part of northwestern Indiana with the highest amounts expected to fall in the Chicago metropolitan area. Gusty winds will also lead to some blowing snow, especially after sunset Saturday.

Please remember a parking ban goes into effect when there is 1" of snow on the ground. Police can ticket and have cars towed.

Carol Stream doesn't plow County or State Roads: County Farm, Army Trail, Gary, Schmale, St. Charles roads and North Avenue.

Please also remember plow drivers can't avoid snow landing on driveways. Their primary job is public safety and keeping roads open for other 1st Responders in case of emergency.

Parents remember children shouldn't play near the ends of driveways or parkways. Snow plows can't always see children. It will be heavy snow. Children can be seriously injured by heavy snow coming off the plows blades.

The best thing you can do is stay off the roads for their safety and yours.

Thank you to the best Plow Drivers anywhere. Thank you for giving up your holiday plans with your families to work this storm....then have to go home to shovle your own driveways.
