Rotary Club of Caro

Rotary Club of Caro Caro Rotary Club meets Mondays at noon at Brentwood Bowling & Restaurant. We represent a variety of professions, avocations, and walks of life.

Our Rotary club is one of 32 in District 6310, which covers the northeast portion of Michigan's lower peninsula. We pride ourselves on the age range of our men and women members and the diverse backgrounds and national origins from which we come. We regularly invite guests to visit our club because new members can:
• Infuse our club with new ideas, energy, and enthusiasm;
• Enhance community repre

sentation;
• Broaden our service base, expanding the number and scope of the projects we can undertake.

Thank you to the William & Ruth Janks Fund, District 6310 , the List Family Fund, the Thumb Area Center for the Arts Fund, the Future Youth Involvement Fund, the Rotary Club of Caro , the Tuscola County Community Foundation , and the Honorable Judge Nancy Thane for funding this years projects!

This week, the club participated in a service project we call the Hygiene Project. With a grant from Rotary District 6310 and matching funds from our club, we purchased things like shampoo, soap, toilet paper, diapers, wipes, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, menstrual products, laundry detergent, dish soap and more. These will be distributed through Great Start Tuscola Enrichment Center, the Caro Community Schools food pantry, and area Thumb Blessing Boxes.

Our speaker this week was Amy Cuthrell. She heads Tuscola County’s Overdose Fatality Review Board. We are the only rural county in Michigan to have such a board. There are various forms of drugs and alcohol that have caused overdose deaths in our county. She gave us a lot of insight about Kratom which is technically an herbal supplement easily purchased at convenience stores but acts as an opioid in the system and can cause an overdose death all on its own.
