ing warm … through shopping with an adult mentor who takes the time to listen, and having something besides a hand-me-down coat to wear to school, kids’ self-esteem grows by leaps and bounds, giving them the confidence to excel in the classroom. Since its inception in 1986, WTAE-TV’s project Bundle-Up has raised $16.5 million, providing more than 300,000 children and seniors with NEW winter outerwear across Western Pennsylvania.

This past winter, a Salvation Army Advisory Board member received a call from an eighty-three-year-old in desperate need of new winter outerwear.

Through project Bundle-Up, she received a voucher to shop and purchase a coat. After she made the purchase, she told The Salvation Army officers this was the first time in her life she was able to get a brand-new winter coat, instead of one that was secondhand.

This past fall, eight-year-old Roman got to experience a shopping trip with project Bundle-Up volunteers.

Overcome with excitement, he couldn’t stop jumping for joy as he picked out his very first brand-new winter coat.

Not only did Roman get the perfect coat, but his shopping volunteer helped him find a new hat, scarf, boots, and gloves. As he walked out of the store Roman turned to the staff and exclaimed “This is the best day of my life!”
