All month we are going to be talking about ways we can support each other, the work of su***de prevention across the valley and how you CAN help! Learning the warning signs of when someone may be struggling could help those in need of support. Some of these warning signs could be:

1️⃣ Someone appearing or expressing that they're sad, lonely, hopeless, in pain, moody, and/or irritable.

2️⃣ Pushing away friends and family, giving away important possessions, using alcohol or drugs, making unsafe decisions, making or researching su***de plans, making art or writing about death.

3️⃣ Changes in school performance, changes in appearance or hygiene, changes in personality or attitude, just not seeming like themselves.

4️⃣ Saying they’re going to kill themselves, saying goodbye. This also could manifest in the form of a text or post.

As exciting as the back to school season can be, we also know that it may come with some anxiety. New routines, new schedules, new spaces.

It can be a lot, for all of us! But there are signs that the young people in your life could be more anxious than they let on. When we better understand how anxiety can manifest in youth, our response changes too.
