GamersGift is a non-profit organization serving to promote well-being and positive spirits through the use of video games and other electronic media. The organization will form partnerships with local health care and private care facilities. Gamers Gift’s goal is provide escape, enjoyment, entertainment, and fascination through the use of video games, while also building relationships and promotin
g social growth through gaming. With the abstract qualities video games provide, they will foster unique opportunities for individuals to experience new adventures. Through physical and mental disabilities or general illness, individuals are generally restricted in movement and opportunity, but technology allows them to experience the world from inside. GamersGift is a program that is in direct response to the growing immersion and opportunity of video games. The goal of the program is to identify resourceful technology that will aid different groups in different ways .The focus is slightly different at each level but the goal remains the same; change lives through technology. For example, in locations where individuals are limited in movement (fine or gross), particular emphasis will be placed on technology promoting movement and control. Gamers Gift will not focus on a primary demographic, but will instead extend the potential of technology to any group that may benefit. Gamers Gift’s outreach programs will include system donations, game donations, software donations, and hardware donations. Aside from physical donations, each program will include recurring volunteer visits to ensure donated items are properly used and understood, as well as to build and maintain relationships with patients. Overall, GamersGift will serve three primary objectives:
Promote Well-Being and Positive Spirits Through The Use of Technology
Encourage Students with Active Involvement in their community
Eliminate stereotypes surrounding gaming and promote technology as an important tool in people’s lives. Gamenight: Gamenight is the central program of Gamers Gift. In order to follow our four driving principles and achieve our three central objectives, we play video games with groups who would benefit from our effort to improve morale and make lasting connections. Gamenight provides escape, opportunity, enjoyment, and cooperation for disadvantaged individuals. TechDonations: We donate video games consoles and other pieces of technology to local children's hospitals, foster homes, VA hospitals, and assisted living facilities to provide our four principles on-location when a consistent Gamenight schedule is not available. GGVR: We use virtual reality systems to provide once in a life experiences to children in the hospital, elderly in assisted living, and disabled individuals. With these virtual reality systems, individuals unable to walk, see, or experience the world are able to choose 3D virtual experiences like scuba diving or landing on the moon.
