Children are the future of conservation.

That’s why Mara Elephant Project offers FREE Zoom sessions connecting classrooms directly with conservationists and rangers in Kenya. These conversations offer a unique opportunity for students to hear firsthand about elephant conservation, human–elephant coexistence, and daily life working to protect wildlife in the Mara.

Recently, Sheffield Elementary School in Massachusetts hosted a Zoom session with two Kenyan conservationists. The students were deeply engaged, asking thoughtful questions and showing genuine excitement as they learned about MEP’s mission. The conversation was shared in an age-appropriate, fun, and interactive way that made conservation feel real and accessible.

Fran Duthie Scholarship Highlight: Faith Leuka

The Fran Duthie African Elephant Conservation Scholarship administered by Mara Elephant Project continues to support and shape the next generation of conservation leaders across Kenya.

For Faith Leuka, growing up in Narok County meant balancing school with daily responsibilities at home while developing a deep connection to the landscapes around her. Witnessing the pressures facing local forests inspired her journey into conservation.

“My journey into forestry and conservation was inspired by my deep appreciation for nature and the environment… and the need to protect it.”

As a scholarship recipient, Faith can put that passion into action by pursuing a diploma in Forestry which blends forest conservation and community engagement initiatives.

“Receiving the scholarship has eased financial challenges and allowed me to fully focus on my studies,” says Faith. “It has strengthened my commitment to conservation and inspired me to aim higher.”

Faith hopes to contribute to restoring degraded forest landscapes and promote sustainable forest management, helping create a future where communities and conservation can thrive together.
