Sheriff Kevin McConville and the members of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office wish to send our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Juliana Torsiello, an NYPD officer and Putnam Valley Resident who tragically lost her life in a single-vehicle crash. Juliana, a dedicated three-year veteran of the force, will be remembered for her service and commitment. May she rest in peace.

Sheriff Kevin J McConville and the members of the Putnam County Sheriff's office, with deep sorrow and heavy hearts, extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Officer Joshua Eyer, Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks, and NC Department of Adult Correction officers Sam Poloche and Alden Elliot who tragically lost their lives in the shootout that occurred while serving warrants to a suspect. The bravery and dedication displayed by these officers in the line of duty will forever be remembered and honored. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen officers, as well as with the four officers who were injured during this devastating incident.

The events that unfolded in Charlotte on Monday have left a profound impact on our law enforcement community. The loss of four brave officers in the line of duty is a stark reminder of the risks our officers face every day to protect and serve. May their sacrifices never be forgotten, and may they rest in peace, knowing they served with honor and valor.

Sheriff Kevin McConville and the members of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office are deeply saddened by the death of Brewster Police Officer Jose Colon, who passed away last night at the age of 55. Colon was a retired NYPD officer who spent 20 years on the job. It's always a loss for the community when someone who has dedicated so many years to serving and protecting others is no longer with us. Our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reports the following Driving While Intoxicated arrests due to increased St. Patrick's Day weekend DWI enforcement.

On March 16, 2024, at approximately midnight, a deputy observed a vehicle driving on Fair St in the Town of Carmel with a loud exhaust and unable to maintain their lane. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver, fifty-four-year-old David Yaskovic of Carmel, was observed to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was given field sobriety tests that he failed. He was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff's Office for processing. He was charged with misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated DWI for having a blood alcohol content higher than .18% and vehicle and traffic violations of Moving From Lane Unsafely and Loud Muffler Exhaust System.

He was released with an appearance ticket to appear at a future date in the Town of Carmel Court.

On March 17 at approximately 4 am, a deputy observed a vehicle stopped on Argonne Road in the Town of Southeast with the engine running. The deputy contacted the operator, Roberto Valenzuela-Morales, 31 years of age, of Danbury, CT, who appeared to be sleeping and detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from him. The operator had trouble standing due to his high level of intoxication and was placed under arrest. He was processed at the Sheriff's Office and was charged with misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated DWI for having a blood alcohol content higher than .18%. He was also given tickets for Unlicensed Operation, Operating with No Insurance, and Stopped on a Public Highway.

He was released with an appearance ticket to appear at a future date in the Town of Southeast Court.
