The Sankofa bird teaches that we must learn from our past in order to build a better future. It encourages reflection, understanding, and wisdom—reminding us that returning to our roots and embracing our history is not a step backward, but a wise and necessary act for growth
SHE: Sankofa continues the journey as Jackson recalls the past and allows it to inform her present experiences as a mother, wife, educator, and community leader. Through contemporary dance, music, and poetry, the performance expresses some of the challenges and joys along the journey and learning to live in it all fully.
