Carmel Heritage Society

Carmel Heritage Society The Carmel Heritage Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

The Carmel Heritage Society is based out of the First Murphy House, a cottage built in 1902 by one of Carmel's earliest builders, Michael J, Murphy, when he was only 17 years old. The Society fought to preserve the house, which was in danger of being demolished and moved it in 1990 to its present location. The First Murphy House serves as a welcome center where visitors can view exhibits on the history of Carmel.
