As Mireya Garcia cherished the last moments her husband would spend with his children from his hospital bed she was overwhelmed with grief and what the future would hold for her two boys. Her husband Kevin would lose his battle with cancer just a few short days later. During this difficult time Mireya was grateful that she had one less thing to worry about and that was Kevin’s hospital bill. Indiana Health Fund was able to assist Mireya with her husband’s medical bills from Community Health Network through IHF’s partnership with the hospital. Today Indiana Health Fund is excited to announce the Kevin Ruble Fund in honor of Mireya’s husband to assist widowed parents with medical bills from their spouse’s treatment. Indiana Health Fund will award a $10,000 grant each year to a widowed parent to assist with their spouse's medical bills.

Friends today is the largest philanthropic day of the year. Indiana Health Fund has worked hard this year by assisting hundreds of families through our education platform video tutorials to aid them in navigating our complex healthcare system. Through these tutorials many families have successfully managed their overwhelming medical bills and have avoided medical bankruptcy.
