Initially, P4BL had planned to host an event this Saturday as some people may have heard. Unfortunately, many of our organizers have other commitments to attend on Saturday and will not be able to be there so we thought it’d be best to cancel since we won’t have the proper leadership day of.

Instead, we have decided to share other local events for our supporters to attend to recognize the day of Juneteenth. Here are a few:

- Ridvan Foxhall, leader of NECS, is hosting a Juneteenth celebration in Peekskill on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Many NAACP chapters will be there to support. Here is an Eventbrite link for this event: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/melanin-magic-juneteenth-celebration-tickets-157426339419?aff=ebdsoporgprofile

- Yorktown for Justice will be hosting a story read at the John C Hart Library, with other celebrations to honor Juneteenth. It is on Saturday @ 10:30 am on the front porch of John C Hart Memorial Library

- Beacon for Black Lives will be hosting a Juneteenth celebration at 7:30 pm @ The Yard (4 Hanna Lane Beacon, NY) with live music, performers, food artist booths, and more.

- Newburgh LGBTQ+ Center will be hosting a Juneteenth Panel on a Livestream at 6-7:30 pm. Registration at: bit.ly/JuneteenthPanel (this will also be shown at Beacon for Black Lives event).

- There will be a Juneteenth event on Saturday from 2-4 at the Bedford Village Memorial park put together by local organizers with live jazz and dance performances.

Check out these detailed flyers for these local events! We hope to see you out there.

*Caption copied from * Putnam is the only county in the lower Hudson Valley that, until 2020, had no public pride events. That changed when a small group of us marched down Gleneida Avenue in Carmel, NY on June 22, 2020 in solidarity with black lives in the wake of the George Floyd murder. While we could not have the parade we had planned in Cold Spring due to Covid, the event brought more visibility to marginalized groups in Putnam.

On June 5th, 2021, Putnam Pride and Putnam for Black Lives will host the 2nd annual Putnam Pride Celebration in Carmel, NY!

MAY PROTEST • 5/1/21 -> The death of Ma’Khia Bryant was not an accident, not an attempt at deescalation, it was murder. She did not deserve to die, she was a child who was going through a hard time. No black child deserves to die in the way she did and she deserves justice just like every other black person who was been needlessly murdered by racist cops and racism in general. Our monthly saturday protest 5/1/21 will be dedicated to Ma’Khia’s soul, may she rest in peace and power. We hope you will join us in fighting for her memory.

Putnam for Black Lives is hosting our second protest of April. The death of Daunte Wright was unjustified and unprecedented. He deserved to lived just as much as any white person with a warrant on their name. Daunte was accused of a crime but that did not mean he deserved to die. Daunte Wright needs justice, and Kim Potter needs to be convicted of the murder of Daunte Wright. Hope to see you there.
