Carlsbad Community Foundation, Inc. The Carlsbad Community Foundation exists to improve the quality of life for the people of South Eddy County. The Foundation receives gifts of all kinds.

The Carlsbad Community Foundation is a charitable nonprofit organization that promotes and enhances the lives of people in Carlsbad and South Eddy County. The Foundation was established in 1978 and has been a primary supporter of education, arts and humanities health and human services and other key issues for more than four decades. At the core of our organization are the generous donors, who over the years have directed their charitable giving toward endowment funds to address present and future needs. Earnings from the Foundation’s endowment funds are used to award scholarships and grants. Meanwhile, the permanent portion of the funds continue to grow and generate money to ensure funding is available for years to come. Many choose donations to the Foundation as a way to memorialize friends and loved ones who have passed away or to honor individuals for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations or other achievements. Some make donations of cash or stocks to charitable funds to support issues that are important to them. Others designate the Foundation as a beneficiary in their will, trust or life insurance policy. The Foundation provides flexibility for donors who want to focus their charitable giving of any size in ways that benefit our community. The Foundation is recognized by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) and all donations are tax deductible.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF '62! The Foundation was honored to present the CHS Class of '62 with the 2026 Legacy Award during our annual celebration of philanthropy! Eleven classmates were able to join us at the community reception, where the award was presented. The Class was surprised when three previous Class of '62 Scholarship recipients were introduced as an example of their long-lasting impact. We thank everyone who was able to join us for such a heartfelt, special evening!

Southeast New Mexico College's Community Education is taking on STEM education for kids aged 12 and older! The Foundation recently awarded a grant to support their plans for multi-session STEM camps that will take place over the next two years. Their aim is to bridge a needs gap as students transition from elementary to middle school. The grant was awarded from the Mary M. Walterscheid Memorial Fund. The late Mary Walterscheid was a Foundation Board Member and a steadfast supporter of education in our community. Shown in the photo is SENMC President Kevin Beardmore, Maria Quintana and Susie Johnson.
