In 2022, documented and collected evidence of a plastic pellet ( , mermaidtears) spill after it was first identified by 15 year old along the california railway tracks.

Trash4tokens partnered with law group providing the evidence that helped initiate legal action and accountability.

That work has now reached a resolution with North County Transit District (NCTD) and industry partners, resulting in new standards designed to prevent future spills and protect our waterways and marine life.

This outcome shows how community-led action and persistence can lead to real environmental change.

🌊 This Giving Tuesday, help us fight one of the smallest but most destructive forms of plastic pollution: nurdles.

Nurdles spill from trains along the 101 in California and leak from plastic manufacturers upstream and out at sea. These tiny pellets wash straight into our rivers and onto our beaches where wildlife easily mistake them for food.

At Trash4Tokens, we work every day to remove nurdles from coastlines and empower communities to identify and report spills.
But we can’t do this life-saving work without your support.

💙 This Giving Tuesday, help us scale nurdle cleanup and education across California and around the world.

We’re devastated to learn that nurdles — tiny plastic pellets — are washing up along the coast after a container ship sank ~38 miles offshore from Kochi Port on Wednesday, 28 May 2025.

It’s still unclear how many containers were carrying these / , but the environmental impact is already visible.

⚠ Local communities are being urged NOT to touch the nurdles due to potential chemical contamination.

This is exactly why we’ve been fighting to amend the IMDG Code and classify nurdles as hazardous material.
đŸ’„ These spills are entirely preventable.

We must act NOW before more coastlines are destroyed.

Thank you to for supporting our cause by showcasing the artwork of our incredible ambassador , raising funds and awareness for our foundation work in South Africa - www.litter4tokens.org and USA/Mexico www.trash4tokens.org.

We’re incredibly grateful to Manna Restaurant for championing our mission to protect our oceans and empower communities!

Adorning their walls now is “Flower of the Deep 03” — a breathtaking mixed media piece (acrylic, charcoal & oil on canvas, 140cm x 90cm) by the talented South African artist and avid surfer,

This artwork, inspired by jellyfish, beautifully captures the mystery and fragility of ocean life. It's available for $2,800, with all proceeds generously donated to support Trash4Tokens - tax certificate provided. Every purchase directly aids our efforts to combat ocean plastic pollution and uplift communities through our circular economy initiatives.

We conduct educational beach clean-ups and presentations in San Diego, shedding light on the Nurdle/mermaid tear issue, both locally and globally. These pollutants originate not only from ships at sea but also from plastic manufacturers during production, as well as from trains like BNSF and NCTD along Highway 101. We are tirelessly advocating for policy changes and amendments to classify nurdles under the IMDG code as hazardous materials.

Don’t miss the opportunity to own art that not only beautifies but also makes a profound impact on our planet.

For more information, DM us or visit Manna to see it in person!

Every day is Earth Day!
In just 2 hours, we collected a record number of nurdles—tiny plastic pellets also known as mermaid tears. These microplastics are polluting our oceans and harming marine life at an alarming rate.

We’re raising awareness about the global nurdle crisis and calling for urgent action:
It’s time to amend the IMDG Code and classify nurdles as hazardous material. This is the only way to prevent spills across the entire transport chain—from ships and trains to factories and storm drains.

Join our mission. Sign the petition. Be the change.
