Cumberland County Youth Advisory Board

Cumberland County Youth Advisory Board We are a group of high school students across Cumberland County in Pennsylvania that come togther to work on substance abuse and prevention issues.

YAB is comprised of high school students from across Cumberland County who bring relevant information about the use of alcohol, to***co, other drugs and gambling in our community to the discussion table. Based upon the Board’s guidance the Commission has been better equipped to develop relevant programming tools. Members also work on projects that are generated with youth input. The Commission has

had the opportunity to include youth in local events, conferences, trainings and other activities all across the Commonwealth of PA. We also work with state legislators, media outlets, and local colleges. Who are we looking for? You should have an interest in maintaining a substance free lifestyle and also helping other students remain substance free. You should be interested in developing team-building and leadership skills. You should be willing to share your presence, time, enthusiasm, and talents to meet shared goals. You should be able to dedicate a minimum of four hours per month to YAB activities. What will you gain from membership? You will make a difference in your family, school, and community by promoting the prevention of alcohol, to***co, other drug use and gambling issues. You will meet and work with students from other parts of the county to promote anti- use messages and develop leadership skills. You will be an example to your peers while having fun, being creative and spending time with students who share similar beliefs. You will be recognized for community service on job applications, resumes, and/or college applications. The possibilities are endless. Our agenda is youth-led so what you get out of YAB is directly related to what you put into it.
