The "One Bowl More: Making Beverages in Early America" Punch Tasting Event takes place this Friday, June 12, 2026, inside the Historic Heishman's Mill in Carlisle, PA.Event
Overview :The event is an immersive, 21+ historical tasting experience presented by the Friends of Historic Heishman's Mill as part of the America250PA Cumberland County celebrations. Tony Shahan, an 18th-century historian and owner of Flavors of History, will lead the presentation in full period costume.
What to Expect, Guided Tasting: Guests will sample five authentic, 18th-century alcoholic drinks and punches. Each beverage is painstakingly recreated using original receipts and colonial recipes left behind by the Founding Fathers and Mothers.Immersive History: The drink samples will be interwoven with stories, trivia, and insights into the heavy alcohol consumption and drinking habits of early America.
Local Mill Connection: The event highlights the mill's own spirited past. Early tax records reveal that Heishman/Diller's Mill once housed two on-site stills, utilizing local grains to distill potent spirits before it became a flour mill. Tony will detail the specific types of stills that operated right where attendees are sitting.
Scenic Gathering: After the indoor presentation, guests are welcome to enjoy the surrounding scenery along the Conodoguinet Creek, sit, and converse with other attendees.
Schedule, Pricing, and Tickets Seating Times: Individual seatings are scheduled for 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and 8:00 PM. Ticket Cost: Tickets are $35 per person (processed as a goodwill donation). All proceeds go directly toward the restoration and preservation of the historic mill.
