Given The Honor

To be just one of those who
Get to tell the story of
Some of our fallen brothers
Along with those
Who were with them
At those moments
In time it happened
With what was done
By those who we lost
Along with the men with them
How they saved others
In those times of need
Standing up to the death
That was coming their way
Look it right in the eyes
As if it was just another day
Doing what only a few
Could have done
When looking death in the eye
Standing there till it was said and done
Then taking care of those
Wounded along with their dead
Then moving on till needed again
Riding in their iron angels
Of the roads over in Vietnam
Laying down the hell fires
Lighting up the days and nights
Driving away the enemies
Coming to do them harm
Putting themselves in harms way
Going between their brothers
Facing the enemies head on
Getting those in the kill zone out
Then moving on to do it again
None of them were told
This is what you going to do
We each wanted to be there
Those trucks we rode on
Were our pride and souls
Meant more to us than anything else
They came before us they were first
Before we got anything
They were done and ready to go
Then we took care of us
That was just how it was
We had this kind of love
With each one of those trucks
For me to have been
Just a small part of that
Was more than enough
To have given me that pride
To have been just one of them
Now at this time in my life
I have been given the honor
To be telling the people
Out there those who do not know
That they were and what they had done
I get to see it on their faces
Even in their eyes
When they get to hear
For the very first time
How they came to be and why
What was done by them
Along with those men on them
Just a few of the stories
That I have known
By those others on them
A few of them I know first hand
Others were passed down to me
From those who were there
Either way it is with a
Great honor I have to tell
Of their doing along with the times
In the lives of those
Trucks and their men
It humbles me
When those who hear
Their stories being told
Come up to me
Thanking me for letting them know
What and how they were
Some even have tears in their eyes
After hearing about them
So I try to let those who were there
Know what happened on those days
I have the truck out telling her story
Of the men who rode on them
I get the honor they should be
Getting to see and hear
What I get to
Though it’s my honor to
For them all I stand with pride
With sometimes a tear
From the peoples words told to me

Vietnam Insanity

Vietnam insanity
Who's to blame
You or VC
For what's
Happened to me

I was okay
When I got there
I learned to serve
When I was there
I went to Hell
When I got back here

You were damned
If you went
You were damned
If you didn't

There were 4 ways
You came back:
1-In a bag
2-A drug addict
3-An alcoholic or
4-A mental case

And if the
First three didn't
Get you
Over there

Then the
Last three
Got you
Back here

I don't know
If "there"
Was worse
Then when
I got
Back "here".
