The Chris Thorpe Foundation

The Chris Thorpe Foundation This foundation was established to honor the memory of Christopher D. Thorpe and to provide financial assistance to individuals in the Carlisle area.

The Chris Thorpe Foundation was recently established to honor the memory of Christopher D. Thorpe (12/28/56-6/8/12). Chris was born in Carlisle and returned there after attending school in Massachusetts. In high school, he was an outstanding student and lettered in football and track. He completed a Search and Rescue course while attending Phillips Academy. As a college student, he studied Art His

tory and pursued photography, as well as taught himself to play the guitar. His life choices emulated an appreciation of being part of the community in which he lived and a strong value for learning. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide financial assistance to individuals in the Carlisle area. Scholarships will be awarded for ventures in education in music, art and experiential learning. The Board of the Foundation will review applications and make the final decisions regarding allocations of scholarships. It is our hope to promote the interests that Chris valued by supporting others who choose to follow a path of personal achievement and civil responsibility.

We have a very special item available during our silent auction this year. Ron, Chris' dad, made hiking sticks every year to donate to CTF. He would spend hours, walking thru the woods in his backyard finding just the right sticks. Then he'd spend more time in his woodshop, sanding and painting those sticks for hikers to enjoy. Even his cat, Lucy, helped supervise the process. (Let's face it, Lucy supervised EVERYTHING in the house.)

Each stick was made with love and care for those who enjoyed spending time in the woods, like Chris did. This year marks 5 years since we lost Ron. He would have been 95 next week. Judy is donating one of her sticks to help raise scholarship funds. So if you weren't able to get one of Ron's hiking sticks during past benefits, now is your chance to have one of these rare and very special hiking sticks.

Please plan to attend our Holiday Benefit this Saturday at from 3-6pm. Bid on all sorts of wonderful donated items - hiking sticks, spa days, winter decor - something for everybody in our auction. Let's spread a bit of holiday cheer!
