Did you know 
that over 80,000 military members are still MIA? The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, DPAA, is responsible for locating and retrieving MIAs. Currently, there are no official, active duty, US military POW‘s being held by enemy forces in recognized active conflicts according to the agency. Locating MIAs requires sending teams of forensic archaeologists and other specialists around the world. Upon locating potential remains, teams perform a DNA match with living relatives. If a positive match, evidence is sent to the DPAA lab for advanced DNA testing, reviewing medical and military records along with interviewing relatives before a positive ID is confirmed. Remains are then returned to the family. September 18 is POW/MIA Recognition Day at the Gold Star.

The Central PA Chapter of American Gold Star Mothers will be reading each and every name that is engraved on the garden walls. These names represent the military fallen of PA from the War on Terrorism and York County’s casualties dating back to World War I.

The public is invited to help with reading of the names.

Central PA Chapter of American Gold Star Mothers is holding a Quilt raffle. Tickets are $10. Drawing will be held on Sunday, December 6th, at the Kimberly Fahnstock Voelz VFW Post 7530, Mechanicsburg, PA.
PARADE REST QUILT
A true patriot design of red, white, blue and gold colors. It is a queen-sized quilt measuring 94 X 108. This beautiful quilt was made by Bonnie Billet, Gold Star Mother from York County.

American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. is an organization of Mothers whose sons and daughters served and died while on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States, or died as a result of such service, or were missing in action.

A void that cannot be explained to anyone else except another mother⭐️

In 1967, the mother of an American soldier visits the grave of her son in Manila. He was KIA in the Philippines during WWII. 🇺🇸

22 years after the fighting ended in the Philippines, this mother made the long flight across the Pacific from the United States.

Her son had been one of the thousands of young Americans killed during the brutal fighting to liberate the islands from Japanese occupation, part of the fierce campaigns of 1944 & early 1945 that included the Battle of Manila, where entire neighborhoods were destroyed & casualties mounted on both sides.

She came alone to the Manila American Cemetery, the largest American military cemetery outside the US, where more than 17k of her son’s comrades rest beneath white marble crosses.

Kneeling at his grave, she reached out as if to touch him one last time, flowers at her feet & a lifetime of loss in her posture.

In an era when international travel was still a major undertaking for many families, she crossed an ocean not for sightseeing or vacation, but to be near the son she had raised & lost.

This quiet moment, captured in 1967, speaks for countless Gold Star mothers who carried their grief across decades & oceans.

On Sunday, May 3rd the mothers of the Central PA Chapter of the American Gold Star Mothers held a “Hanging of The Stars” ceremony in the Memorial Garden at U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, Carlisle, PA. Each star holds the name of a Fallen son or daughter from the chapter. Members from the Marine Corps League Lewis B. Puller Jr., Detachment 524 helped with the hanging of the stars.
