Inspired by organizations like Transition Network, Carey Link looks at the environmental and social issues the world faces today from a holistic standpoint. We believe these problems have the same roots, and by strengthening our community, we can provide solutions to both. We believe small communities each doing their part to tackle these on a local basis can help solve problems on a large scale.
Carey Link runs several programs geared toward this goal:
-Our farmers market and community garden support local growers, teach youth and adults how to grow food, provide residents with healthy food choices, and reduce reliance on food that must be shipped from far away.
- Our free repair clinic helps residents by restoring the use of broken items, while also reducing demand for new products and reducing what is thrown into the landfill.
- Our recycling programs help preserve natural resources.
- Elm Hill Nature's Edge, a new park created in collaboration with the Village of Carey, provides habitat for wildlife, perennial food crops for humans, and opportunities for education and recreation for local residents.
