CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Beginner

Mouse is a 2005 Grade mare who stands at 14.1 hands tall and weighs 1,040lbs.
Mouse is a wonderful mare who can be shy at first with new people. She is a very easy keeper. She is currently staying healthy on a dry lot with full access to a grass mix round bale and no grain. Mouse has been diagnosed with Cushings and Metabolic Syndrome that she requires daily medication to treat. In the pasture, Mouse can be hesitant to be caught but she is easily persuaded with treats. In the arena, Mouse stands tied quietly, picks up all for feet, and loves getting attention and being groomed. Mouse is nervous around our desensitizing equipment such as the ball and tarp but under saddle she is wonderful to ride. She stands quietly to be mounted from a block and she is responsive to her rider's requests. Mouse has a quick walk and trot and she will get excited hop into a smooth canter. She has been ridden western, english and ba****ck both in our indoor arena and around the farm. On the trail, Mouse isn't a confident leader and is best to follow the lead horse. Mouse is easy to stop, turn and back up. She neck reins, direct rains and moves from leg pressure. Mouse will need a lot of conditioning as she is out of shape and hasn't been in work for a while, but with a little effort, she would make a wonderful 4-H or trail horse for a confident child or beginner rider.

Wyandot County Equine Rescue had the pleasure of hosting a tour this week for Japanese foreign exchange students from the University of Findlay.

Even with the bitter cold weather, we had a wonderful time sharing our mission, meeting new faces, and spending time with the horses.

We’re so grateful for the opportunity and look forward to doing this again next year!

CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Confident Beginner

Tardy is a 2002 Quarter Horse mare who stands at 14.3 hands tall and weighs 1,064lbs.
Tardy is a nice mare who gets along with the senior mares and geldings she's turned out with. Tardy is an older mare that requires quality grain, hay and alfalfa mash to stay healthy. Tardy can be pushy when leading and need to be corrected occasionally. Tardy loves to be groomed, she enjoys the attention so much she stands perfectly still. She also stands quietly for tacking and mounting. Tardy will shake her head with a bit, but she rides great in a hackamore. She is easy to stop and turn and she is tolerant of unbalanced riders making her perfect for beginners and children. She has a smooth trot but she lacks conditioning and isn't ready to canter. Tardy does have a mild swayback that is easily corrected with a thick pad. Tardy's favorite place is out on trails! She will confidently lead the way or follow behind and she isn't spooky at all. Tardy is tender footed in the front and would benefit from shoes and pads if she's is going to be out on trails or ridden on hard ground. She would be best matched with a family who doesn't mind the extra care she requires to hold her weight and is looking to do some light riding around their farm.

PASTURE PET (Occasional light riding with a light rider)

Jetta is a 1999 Tennessee Walking Horse Mare who stands at 14.3 hands tall and weighs 946lbs.
Jetta is a quiet mare who fits into the middle the heard with mares and geldings and is quick to pair up with a new friend when moved. Jetta does have arthritis in her knees and hocks but she is currently doing fine on pasture without maintenance. Jetta is pushy when leading and she will call from for her friends, but she stands to be groomed, tacked and mounted. Under saddle Jetta is easy to ride, but due to her age and arthritis, she will need a light rider and a home with light riding where she is primarily a pasture pet. Jetta would be best matched with a home who wants a pasture pet that could occasionally accommodate a ride from a child or light rider.

CURRENT RIDER LEVEL: Confident Beginner

Journey (Pushers Money Delight) is a 2008 Tennessee Walking Horse mare who stands at 15 hands tall and weighs 1,080lbs.
She is a kind, affectionate girl who truly enjoys human attention and is always happy to greet you—often walking right up to you in the field.
Journey gets along well when turned out with both mares and geldings. She is blind in her right eye, which doesn’t slow her down or bother her much, but she does appreciate plenty of verbal cues on that side, especially before being touched. On the ground, Journey is a dream. She stands very quietly for grooming and tacking, loves treats, and soaks up affection. She stands patiently at the mounting block, but once you’re seated, she’s ready to head out and do her job. Under saddle, Journey takes a bit but prefers a shorter shanked hackamore ridden on a loose rein with minimal contact. She neck reins better than she direct reins and is very soft, responsive to seat cues, and sensitive to leg pressure. She does best with light leg aids and clear vocal cues.
Journey has a lovely walk and an incredibly smooth “pace.” While she doesn’t gait correctly, her movement is butter smooth and exceptionally comfortable to ride.
We’ve enjoyed riding Journey in the arena, but we believe she will truly shine as a trail horse. She will be best matched with an understanding intermediate rider looking for a smooth, willing trail partner to explore the world with.
If you’re searching for a sweet, smooth, and responsive mare to hit the trails with, Journey may be your perfect match.
