When Gandalf arrived at Acadiana Animal Aid from the Town of Jena, it was impossible not to fall in love with him.

He's the sweetest boy, with soulful eyes and a gentle personality that instantly wins people over.

But Gandalf's past tells a harder story.

He is currently undergoing treatment for heartworms, and X-rays revealed an old fracture with a bullet still visible near the injury site. While the fracture is stable and healing, he remains on pain management.

Unfortunately, Gandalf's story isn't unique. Too many stray dogs are treated as a nuisance rather than animals in need. They survive without medical care, often carrying the scars of what they've endured long before they find safety.

Today, Gandalf is finally receiving the care he deserves, but that care comes at a cost.

Your support through Help 'Em Home helps provide heartworm treatment, pain management, veterinary care, and second chances for animals like Gandalf.

What does it mean to be a Foster? 🐾
Next Friday, June 12th, we invite you to join our Foster Orientation from 5:30-6:15pm, here at our shelter. Discover ways to get involved that you didn't know were possible and what your role might be in our mission to save lives. Our foster program is a huge component to the gift of second chances and for so many, it is the reason that happily ever after is attainable.

This orientation requires no long term commitment, just an open mind and a willingness to learn about the real challenges our pet population is facing. Grab a free ticket to reserve your spot, as attendance for this orientation is limited to 25 people: https://acadianaanimalaid.org/all-events/?event=2705
Love them enough to save them. ❤

🐾✨ Feeling Bonita? She IS Bonita. ✨🐾
Beauty, charm and grace, she is a treat collector and a professional in acitivities of leisure, loves frollicking with toys and being the Best Girl in all of Acadiana. We know, it's saying a lot, but Bonita is just that dog. Mindblowing to all of us, she's been available for adoption for 85 long days!

Less than 40lbs, good with other dogs, great napping partner and a dreamboat of a housemate, you get the full package. Bonita is currently in foster care and they say that they is "perfect," so we highly suggest you fill out an adoption form at acadianaanimalaid.org/adopt and schedule and Meet and Greet. Plus, Bonita's adoption fee is completely WAIVED due to her length of stay in our care, so you'll have every reason to spoil her. 👑💞

There are over 100 dogs and cats available for adoption in our care, with countless more desperately begging for help. That's why for the month of June we are reducing ALL adoption fees to $50 for eligable pets and completely WAIVING fees for long time shelter residents.

Thanks to the support of our community, the animals in our care have been given a second chance at life but the work doesn't stop there. Adoption is CRUCIAL to continual lifesaving. We need your help in advocating for the pets who are just simply waiting, some for many weeks and months, to be known, seen, understood and loved. You are their pathway out into a better life. When looking to expand your family, please visit your local shelters and rescues and give your heart to someone who truly needs it.

Fill out an adoption form at acadianaanimalaid.org/adopt to begin the process, or visit us Monday-Friday 9am-5pm and this Saturday 10am-1pm.
To support the work that we do, donate to their care and Help'em Home: https://animalaid.donorsupport.co/page/HELPEMHOME 🐾

Dine N Dash: play first, think later. 🍽
This tiny orange criminal possesses a singular brain cell, zero impulse control and the confidence to rule the world. He's 3 months old and he's ready to bring some spice into your life, treating your living room like a nascar track! Dine N Dash is goofy, playful and his comical antics are sure to keep you laughing.

All jokes aside, this baby would thrive so much better in a home environment, rather than a shelter where he is confined and bored. Give him the room to stretch his paws, let his personality flourish and we just know he will bring so much happiness and love into your home. Come meet Dine N Dash at our shelter in Carencro, open week days 9am-5pm and this Saturday, 10am-1pm.

For nearly six months, Moo Deng waited.

After being removed from a hoarding case, she spent day after day at the St. Landry Parish Animal Shelter after arriving there on December 5th. In May, she finally got the second chance she had been waiting for when she entered Acadiana Animal Aid's care.

When Moo Deng arrived, she was suffering from demodex and a bacterial skin infection that left her skin inflamed and much of her fur missing. Thanks to veterinary care, medicated treatments, and plenty of TLC, she is already making incredible progress.

What makes Moo Deng so special isn't what she's been through. It's her gentle spirit. Despite months of discomfort and uncertainty, she remains one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. She loves people, greets her favorite humans with excited wiggles, and is quickly winning hearts everywhere she goes.

Your support through Help 'Em Home gives animals like Moo Deng the medical care, shelter, and second chances they deserve.

Loki was just an 8-week-old kitten when he arrived at Acadiana Animal Aid in 2012.

He was sick, underweight, and had been rescued from a high-kill shelter on the very day he was scheduled to be euthanized. After more than a month in foster care recovering, he was finally ready to find a home.

At the same time, his future adopter had been visiting Acadiana Animal Aid every week for months. She met wonderful cats along the way, but she hadn't found her cat yet. She was looking for a best friend.

Then she met Loki.

The adoption coordinator opened his cage, and Loki walked straight into her lap and fell asleep. That was it. He was home.

Over the next 14 years, Loki became so much more than a pet. He was a constant companion, an adventure buddy, and a source of comfort through every stage of life. He followed his family everywhere, moved across the country, traveled by car, boat, and plane, learned tricks, chased lizards, begged for fish at the dinner table, and never passed up the opportunity for a warm lap.
He had a way of making ordinary moments special.

Those who knew Loki also knew he faced more than his share of health challenges. He lived with kidney disease and other medical conditions for much of his life, but his spirit never seemed to notice. He met every obstacle with the same determination and joy that defined him from the beginning.

Last month, Loki passed away at 14 years old.

His family shared his story with us because they wanted people to know what rescue made possible. A kitten who almost didn't get a chance at life went on to spend 14 years being loved beyond measure.

That is the power of rescue.

Every animal who comes through our doors deserves the opportunity to become someone's best friend, someone's source of comfort, someone's Loki.

Through Help 'Em Home, you're helping make stories like this possible every day. ❤️
