When Gandalf arrived at Acadiana Animal Aid from the Town of Jena, it was impossible not to fall in love with him.
He's the sweetest boy, with soulful eyes and a gentle personality that instantly wins people over.
But Gandalf's past tells a harder story.
He is currently undergoing treatment for heartworms, and X-rays revealed an old fracture with a bullet still visible near the injury site. While the fracture is stable and healing, he remains on pain management.
Unfortunately, Gandalf's story isn't unique. Too many stray dogs are treated as a nuisance rather than animals in need. They survive without medical care, often carrying the scars of what they've endured long before they find safety.
Today, Gandalf is finally receiving the care he deserves, but that care comes at a cost.
