During the October 4th Glendale Cemetery walk, Cardington resident Lt. Col. John Vaughan was mentioned. John attended Cardington High School and was the first airmen alumni to be killed in action during World War II. John was 23 years old at the time of his death. Cardington American Legion Post #97 is named after John for his heroism and ultimate sacrifice to our country.
As shown below, American Legion Post #97 was given a very generous donation of John’s story and his actions during World War II. The collection also includes John’s personal war journal with an entry he made the day before he was shot down.
If you are interested in knowing more of John’s story and his heroic deeds, please feel free to visit the Legion and look at the display. The Legion is open every Thursday 5-9pm, every Saturday 4-9 pm, and the third Friday of every month 5-7 pm. If these times are not convenient for you, please call 214-674-2890 to set up a personal appointment.
