The Thrift Shop CWU The Thrift Shop is a locally operated, non-profit service that was created in 1966 as a way to provide a voucher program for families in need.

From it's humble beginnings back in 1966, when some very enterprising members of The Church Women United of Carbondale group decided that there needed to be an outlet for inexpensive second-hand merchandise as well as a place where those in need could receive basic necessities at no cost, The Thrift Shop has served this community for over 50 years now. Although it has faced many tough challenges a

nd struggles throughout it's existence, it is still here, quietly serving those who need it most. We strive every day to make this a safe and fun environment that's easy to shop, while providing the lowest prices in town for things that people need everyday, as well as a nice selection of unique and eclectic vintage and collectible items. Our only source for merchandise comes directly from this community, which we love, and then goes right back out to other members of this same community, whether as a gift through our voucher system or in monies donated to other non-profit service organizations in the area. The Thrift Shop is governed by a volunteer board of members within this community and does not turn any of it's income over to a corporation or billionaire CEO. It is truly an organization for the people that prides itself on being ecologically responsible as well as being a humanitarian cause.

Just shy of our $3,500 goal but that’s still a HUGE success. Thank you so much for your purchases and donations.
Today’s fundraiser will directly go to help our building expansion project get off the ground and going. There’s still a long ways to go in getting the building next door ready but this is exactly what we needed to start.
Expanding our space will help us in many ways and insure we can stay open by selling more stuff. More sales floor space will help us keep prices down, help keep staff employed, it makes our store more handicap accessible, and will improve our voucher programs so we can store more essentials and emergency needs.
Cheers to a move in the right direction!
