🚒 THE RISING COST OF FIRE APPARATUS: INVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITY'S SAFETY
Did you know the cost of a new fire engine has more than doubled in just 14 years?
At Roaring Fork Fire Rescue Authority, providing reliable emergency services requires more than trained firefighters and paramedics. It also requires dependable fire apparatus and thoughtful planning for the future.
📊 Here's how fire engine costs have changed:
🚒 2009: $580,035 — 2010 Pierce Arrow XT Rescue Pumper
🚒 2019: $708,890 — Pierce Enforcer PUC Pumper
🚒 2023: $1,210,855 — Pierce Enforcer PUC Pumper (contract signed November 2023, with delivery expected in 2027)
That's an increase of $630,820, or nearly 109%, between 2009 and 2023!
🔥 MAKING EVERY RESOURCE COUNT
When our newest fire engine arrives in 2027, the 2010 Pierce Arrow XT Rescue Pumper will transition to a reserve engine. This allows us to extend its useful service life by using it for firefighter training and as backup when frontline apparatus are out of service for repairs or preventative maintenance.
As the cost of essential firefighting equipment continues to rise, careful financial planning and responsible management of our existing resources are more important than ever.
Our goal remains the same: ensuring our firefighters and paramedics have the equipment they need to respond safely and effectively when our communities need them most.
Roaring Fork Fire Rescue Authority serves our communities through the Basalt & Rural Fire Protection District and Snowmass-Wildcat Fire Protection District.
