The Illinois Audubon Society is promoting a 2021 Big Chapter Day. A team from each chapter competes to find the most bird species in Illinois and Shawnee Audubon would like you to join our team whether you are a member or not. Registration is $10 which will be given to that chapter. The event is set for May 1 starting at 12:00 am and running to 4 pm.
Participants can bird anywhere in Illinois for as long as they want within the time period. By having team members from anywhere in the state, species not normally found in the chapter's area can be counted thereby increasing the total number of species.
The coordinator for the Shawnee Chapter team who will receive, tally and report the count is Ann Douglas. Results must be sent to her at the end of the count best by e-mail: [email protected].
Register at illinoisaudubon.org by April 30.
Competitors may bird alone or with others. The number of different species are important, not the number of birds. Birds must be conclusively identified by sight or sound.
Please send results to Ann before May 4. Winners will be announced after May 5. There will be an individual and a chapter winner.
It's been a long year of inactivity so join Team Shawnee and have some fun.
