We are excited to announce the winner of the People’s Choice award for Clay National XVIV: Heirlooms!

People’s Choice Award:
"Triumphal Arch of Coexistence" by Betsy Alwin

"Triumphal Arch of Coexistence" is a hand-built and carved stoneware sculpture exploring the fragile relationships between humans and the natural world.

“Much of its surface is carved away, creating a porous structure made up of motifs that include a human hand, a feather, aster flowers, and thistle. This collection of symbols considers the relationship between native and what are termed ‘invasive’ plants and the human role in this ongoing ethical debate.

Growing up on a nursery, plants and their relationships to the natural world, subject to human whims, were a topic of everyday life. These themes have stayed with me and have influenced my thought process in the studio. In this work, I contemplate how fragile relationships between what seem like opposing forces can create new forms and realities.” — Betsy Alwin

Still glowing from Clay & Moonlight. 🌙✨

There were so many wonderful moments, and we’re happy to share a few more from an evening celebrating creativity, connection, and the community that makes Carbondale Clay Center what it is.

As a nonprofit arts organization serving the Roaring Fork Valley since 1997, our work is made possible by a community that believes in the value of creativity and access to the ceramic arts. The incredible generosity and enthusiasm we felt at Clay & Moonlight will help us continue creating opportunities for artists, students, members, and our broader community to learn, make, connect, and grow through clay.

From familiar faces to new friends, beautiful work, shared stories, and plenty of laughter, this year’s Clay & Moonlight was a powerful reminder of what can happen when our community comes together in support of the arts.

To everyone who joined us, contributed, donated, volunteered, shared your work, or helped bring the evening to life: thank you. We are deeply grateful to have you as part of the CCC community and excited for all that your support makes possible. 💜

As the school year begins, we're taking a moment to celebrate the incredible educators who inspire, encourage, and shape the next generation every day. 💜✏️🍎

Earlier this month, teachers joined us for a free Teacher Appreciation Wheel Workshop, generously sponsored by It was an evening to get their hands in clay, connect with one another, and create.

At Carbondale Clay Center, we believe creativity is essential for our entire community. Providing meaningful opportunities like this helps strengthen the people who make our schools and our valley, such a special place.

Thank you to the Carbondale Education Foundation for making this experience possible, and to every teacher preparing to welcome students back into the classroom. Wishing you a wonderful school year ahead!
