Jason Arday couldn’t speak until he was 11. He didn’t learn to read or write until he was 18. Growing up, he was diagnosed with autism and was told he’d likely need lifelong support. But he defied every expectation. In March 2023, he made history by becoming the youngest ever Black professor at the University of Cambridge. His journey is a powerful reminder that struggle doesn’t mean defeat — and brilliance can come from places people often overlook.

Wear Orange was an awesome event!
I want to thank everyone who came out, supported, volunteered, sponsored, vended, spoke, served, and stood with us as we continue the work to end gun violence and build a safer community.
I especially want to thank my staff and volunteers: Michael Valliant, Elva Prince, Jennifer Lampkins, Tenekio, NayNay, Eric Oliver, Yaya, Vic, Jasper, Georgia, Carmalita Cahill, TJ, Unree Westley, Matthew Wilson, Carlos, Yolanda Dean, Roslyn Hale, Rick, Chip, and Tessa.
Thank you to all the vendors who came out and participated. Your presence helped make the event special.
Thank you to our sponsors: City of Carbondale, Connect 360, Christina Allbright, SI CABE, 618 Launch Pad, Beyond the Wall, and Women for Change. Your support helped bring this event to life.
Last but not least, thank you to the community for showing up, standing together, and being part of this movement. Wear Orange was not just an event — it was a reminder that when we come together, we are stronger!
