Get Loc’d by Kristelle

When did you start your business, and tell us a little about your journey?
Get Loc’d by Kristelle was established in 2023 to provide professional, healthy loc care in a welcoming environment. My journey has centered on education, client confidence, and creating a luxury experience rooted in trust.

Why did you decide to start your business?
I wanted to offer intentional loc care that prioritizes hair health while helping clients feel confident and seen throughout their journey. After starting my own loc journey, I realized how important it was to have knowledgeable, trustworthy care, and I thought it would be a great idea to give people what I wanted in a Loctician.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to become an entrepreneur?
Set boundaries, build systems early, and focus on quality. Keep learning and let your integrity guide your growth.

The Craftelle Shop

When did you start your business, and tell us a little about your journey?
I started The Craftelle Shop in 2025 as a creative outlet that grew into a custom craft boutique specializing in personalized gifts, Greek paraphernalia, and resin pieces. My journey has been fueled by creativity, community, and creating meaningful items that celebrate milestones and sisterhood.

Why did you decide to start your business?
I’ve always had a passion for creating and saw an opportunity to provide high-quality, intentional custom pieces. Turning my creativity into a business allowed me to serve others while doing what I love.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to become an entrepreneur?
Start where you are and stay consistent. Invest in your brand, build relationships, and remember your purpose on the hard days. Progress matters more than perfection.

1. Tell us about your business journey.

My business journey officially began on March 19, 2020, just before the COVID‑19 pandemic—a time that tested resilience in ways no one expected. However, the foundation for my entrepreneurial spirit was laid much earlier. At just seven years old, I dreamed of starting my own comic book company called Crazy Skull Comics. I still have the original sketches and comics from that time, which serve as a powerful reminder that creativity has always been a part of who I am.

As I grew older, my interests evolved. I developed a strong appreciation for fashion after discovering a graphic t‑shirt brand called Chumps at Walmart. That inspiration sparked my desire to launch my own t‑shirt business. Over time, Crazy Skull Comics transformed into Tha Potion Graphics, a brand shaped by my growing passion for design.

Between the ages of 12 and 14, I became deeply influenced by music and graffiti art, which further fueled my creative drive. Life, however, presented its challenges—heartbreak, loneliness, and difficult neighborhood environments required resilience and perseverance. After overcoming significant obstacles, I graduated high school and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

While deployed to Afghanistan, those childhood dreams resurfaced. I picked up a pencil again and reignited my passion for Tha Potion Graphics. In 2019, I joined Theta Nu Psi Military Fraternity, whose mentorship and encouragement played a vital role in helping me navigate personal challenges and refine my creative vision.

Although my pace slowed for a period, I am proud to say that I am fully recommitting myself to my creative endeavors in 2026. This journey reflects resilience, passion, and the power of community—and it continues to shape both my business and my purpose.

2. Why did you decide to start your business?

I decided to start my business because I felt an undeniable urgency to turn my dreams into reality. Rather than postponing my vision, I chose to embrace the challenge and share my creativity with the world.

My long-term goal has always been to build something bigger than myself—something that could grow into a franchise and become a legacy passed down through generations. As my military career neared its end, I felt a strong desire to pursue a purpose that would make my family proud. Tha Potion Graphics represents that opportunity: a meaningful future rooted in passion, values, and inspiration.

3. What advice would you give to others looking to enter this field?

My strongest advice is to maintain a disciplined work ethic. One day of complacency can easily set you back weeks. While it’s important to admire the work of others, comparison should be approached with caution. Inspiration fuels creativity, but excessive comparison can dilute originality.

Always stand firm in your brand and your vision. Your unique perspective is your greatest strength. I live by the motto:
“Too Original to Be a Copy.”

When did you start your business, and tell us a little about your journey?

My business officially became a business in 2025, but it really started as a hobby back in 2021. I began by making custom paddles for my SCPOA, bedazzling Crocs for my daughter, and creating pens as gifts for friends. It was just something I enjoyed doing in my free time.
Over time, I started bringing things to work—custom items, desk decor, and small gifts—and coworkers kept asking where I got them or if I could make something for them. I was constantly doing going-away gifts, promotions, and special items for people at work. My OS1 finally told me, “You need to make this official,” and that push really stuck with me.
Once I realized how much I was already doing for my coworkers and the impact it had, I decided to turn what I loved into an actual business. What started as creativity and fun grew into something meaningful.

Why did you decide to start your business?

I decided to start my business because I was already doing the work and helping people anyway. I noticed the Exchange was charging for things I could do myself, and I wanted to offer those services in a more personal and affordable way—especially for my fellow military members.
Starting my business allowed me to give back, use my skills, and create things that actually mean something to people.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to become an entrepreneur?

Just start and don’t overthink it. You’ll figure things out as you go. It’s okay to make mistakes. Be patient, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to grow into it. If you believe in what you’re doing, everything else will fall into place.

RaShonda Anderson

When did you start your business, and tell us a little about your journey?

I opened my business in 2022 as a catering and event-planning company, which has
since grown to include our own event space. Sweet Escape was founded by Rashonda
Anderson, an Air Force veteran with more than 15 years of experience in the restaurant
and catering industry. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management with a
focus in Culinary Arts and a Master’s degree in Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Why did you decide to start your Business?
I started my business from my love of cooking and later expanded it to meet the need for
a space where people could celebrate special events, host workshops, and enjoy private
celebrations. Hospitality is a passion for both me and my family, so adding an event
space felt like a natural extension of another way to welcome people into my home.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to become an entrepreneur?
The advice I would give to someone who wants to become an entrepreneur is to take it
one step at a time, embrace challenges as lessons, and never stop pursuing the vision
God has placed on your heart.

Brittney Leshay

I officially started my business last year early 2025, but the idea was brewing since 2024. I started with my initial idea and started working on it and then I had a few set backs that led to me stepping away for about 4 months but I came back with a vengeance. More items are coming soon.

I decided to start my business, first and foremost because I am a Sailor myself and I love Sailors and the Navy. I thought there are things that I wish I had that I didn't, so I decided why not create it myself.

Advice I would give is to JUST DO IT. Stop sitting on that idea, don't worry about what others may think just go for it.

My fb page is Mess Deck Press. I can be contacted at any time.
