Dear Volunteers, Donors, and Visitors,
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped bring The Longest Yarn Exhibition to the United States. Your generosity, dedication, and support made this extraordinary tribute possible.
Originally unveiled in Carentan, France, on June 6, 2024, to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, The Longest Yarn Exhibition traveled throughout Europe before making its American debut at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum in Cape May County on June 6, 2025.
Measuring 80 meters in length, the tapestry symbolizes both the 80 years since D-Day and the 80 days it took Allied forces to liberate Paris. Inspired by the 1962 film “The Longest Day”, the exhibition comprises 80 unique panels depicting the events of June 6, 1944, from preparations and launch in England to the Normandy invasion itself. Created with the guidance of historians to ensure historical accuracy, each scene captures the courage, sacrifice, and humanity of this pivotal moment in world history.
During the summer of 2025, the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum welcomed more than 38,000 visitors. Following its Cape May County presentation, The Longest Yarn Exhibition continued to educate and inspire tens of thousands more at the WWII American Experience Museum and Education Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Virginia, before returning to Carentan, France, where it now resides permanently.
To continue sharing this powerful story, The Longest Yarn, Cape May, a local nonprofit organization, partnered with American Veterans Media to produce the documentary film A THREAD THROUGH HISTORY: The Longest Yarn Story. Epic in scope and international in reach, the film chronicles the exhibition's remarkable journey and preserves its legacy for generations to come. Filmed across five countries, the United States, France, England, Germany, and Belgium, the documentary explores D-Day, the Allied campaign to defeat N**i Germany, and the enduring legacy of the Greatest Generation.
Through art, history, and personal stories, the film honors the bravery, sacrifice, and brotherhood that changed the course of history. More than a documentary, it is a tribute to those who fought for freedom and to the people around the world who continue to preserve their memory.
This project stands as a testament to the power of unity, remembrance, and shared purpose. We are deeply grateful for your support and for being part of this remarkable journey. We hope The Longest Yarn continues to inspire reflection, gratitude, and a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made during one of history’s defining moments.
Whether you contributed your time, offered financial support, or simply visited the exhibition, you helped preserve and share this important story for future generations. Thank you once again for your support, and we hope you enjoy the film, A THREAD THROUGH HISTORY: The Longest Yarn Story.
With gratitude,
Mark Kulkowitz & The Longest Yarn Cape May County Team
