PLANNING BOARD REJECTS "ALL-INCLUSIVE" RESORT IN CAPE MAY

At the June 10 meeting, the Board voted 7-2 to reject the Jetty Developer's application for an All-Inclusive resort to replace the current Jetty Motel. During the public comment period, many members of the Cape May community spoke in front of a packed house of concerned citizens. The eloquent and thoughtful comments helped the vote go against the developer. Thank you for your continued support. A special thanks to the speakers and everyone who attended the meeting.

SAY NO TO "SANDALS-LIKE RESORT IN CAPE MAY ON JUNE 10

The developers of the Jetty want to replace it with a Sandals-like all-inclusive resort. They describe their target guests as people who stay in their rooms, go to the beach every day, and never leave the property. Cape May has so much to offer; why would we want a resort that doesn't want its guests to enjoy our town? Attend the Planning Board Meeting on June 10 @ 6:30 in City Hall.

SAY NO TO A "SANDALS-LIKE" RESORT IN CAPE MAY ON JUNE 10
The Jetty developer said they will replace the Jetty with a Sandals-like resort. These resorts typically include a private beach with bar service. If you don't want a resort that isolates guests from all Cape May retailers, attend the Planning Board meeting on June 10 at 6:30 in City Hall.

PLANNING BOARD MEETING ON JUNE 10 - Please attend to express your views on the All Inclusive Resort that is replacing the Jetty Motel, with a 240-seat bar and restaurant, and inadequate parking.

03/30/2025

Jetty Developers Want the City to Approve on-Street Parking for 70 additional cars. The 200-plus-seat bar and restaurant will use 70 street parking spots in the cove. Check out the video and see if you can find spots for 70 more cars. If you want to express your opinion on the lack of street parking, attend the Planning Board meeting at Cape May City Hall on April 8 at 6:30. The video is a little choppy and long, but it is worth the effort to watch it.

New Name, Same Old Story - The proposed Jetty Resort and Hotel is now Avue Resort.

The Pennsylvania owners of the Jetty have come up with a new name, but they are still 70 plus parking places short of what is required by code. The plans call for less than half the number they need. No design change, just a name change. If you think parking and beach access are issues in the Cove today, it will only get worse with this plan. Please attend the Planning Board Meeting on April 8 at 6:30 to share your opinion. Stay tuned for more updates.

At the January 25th meeting, the Cape May Planning Board denied the Jetty's developer's request to extend their August 2019 approval. As a result, they will have to submit a new plan to the Board in the future. Thank you for your continued support.

The Jetty Resort's developer will be seeking an extension on his 2019 approval at the January 25 Planning Board meeting. His 2019 plan has about 10,000 square feet of unused space he turned into a restaurant and bar in his recent failed application. Cape May regulations allow granting an extension within two years of the original approval. The initial approval was August 19, 2019, so the extension should have been applied for before August 19, 2021.

Please attend the 6:30 pm January 25 Planning Board meeting at City Hall to let them know they should follow the rules set by the city.

We want to thank you for your support of our effort to "Stop the Development of the Jetty Resort." At last night's meeting, the Planning Board voted 9-0 to reject the developer's application for a larger hotel with a restaurant and bar. The auditorium was full of our supporters. The turnout clearly demonstrated the community's opposition to the plan and influenced the outcome. We will continue to monitor the developer's plans and activities, so we can "Keep Cape May, Cape May."
