Cape May County Zoo AAZK Chapter

Cape May County Zoo AAZK Chapter We are a chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers consisting of staff members at the Cape May County Zoo.
(1)

Our chapter is made up of zoo keepers from the Cape May County Zoo. We put on events to raise money to provide enrichment items for our animals (like the toys you see in their exhibits) and to give donations to other organizations that are important in animal conservation. We also send our zookeepers to conferences in order to further their education so that we may provide the best possible care to our animals!

โ—TONIGHTโ—Make sure to stop by Fleck's Ice Cream between 6-9pm to enjoy a sweet treat for a great cause!

A portion of the proceeds will go to The Peregrine Fund, a non-profit organization working to protect bird-of-prey species, such as the Andean Condor. Andean Condors are incredible birds of prey belonging to the New World vulture family. As scavengers, they are essential to preventing the spread of disease. Their populations have declined in the past several years, making them a vulnerable species. The work of the Peregrine Fund is critical to protecting their habitats and raising awareness among local communities.

We hope to see you there! Drop your favorite ice cream flavors in the comments ๐Ÿจ๐Ÿฆ

Happy World Ocean Day! ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‹๐ŸŒŠ

This year, we were proud to collaborate with the Cape May Whale Watch and Research Center to celebrate this important day. We had the opportunity to learn about the research and data collection conducted aboard the American Star, as well as several of their conservation efforts, including the Clean Ocean Initiative.

We are fortunate to have such an incredible organization dedicated to protecting our local waterways and marine life. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and to support their ongoing work in research, education, and conservation.

SQUIRREL! ๐Ÿฟ

Okay, so they see a lot of squirrels... but this one was quite different than what they were used to! This enrichment was not only visual, but also cognitive. What IS that? And to find that out, they did a lot of smelling, so it got a bonus for olfactory enrichment! Thanks so much to Conor OBrien for the donation of this two-pack of battery-operated, talking squirrels!
