The Brazilian Student Association is a non profit cultural, social and professional organization striving to promote the Brazilian culture as well as serving the above mentioned purpose around Southeast Missouri State University campus and its surrounding environment.

We are very proud of our President and Advisor. They were recognized as awards recipients tonight at the Student Life and Leadership Awards Banquet for their outstanding contributions to the university!

Karen Muramatsu, BRASA's founding president, received both the President's Sprit of Southeast Award and Provost Award. The President's Spirit of Southeast, one of the most prestigious award a student can receive, is awarded to five students who exemplify the "Spirit of Southeast" through leadership and involvement. It is selected by the president of Southeast Missouri State University. The Provost award is awarded to one undergraduate from each College who demonstrated academic excellence.

Jennifer Rhodes, BRASA's founding advisor, received the Outstanding Advisor Award. This award is awarded to one of two volunteer advisors who are staff, faculty, or graduate assistant who shows a strong commitment to not only a student organization but to the development of student leaders.

We are all very proud of our president and advisor for representing us!

Do you want to study abroad, learn more about Brazil, and meet new people?

The Federal University of Minas Gerais is offering you a great opportunity! This Summer, they will be hosting a free Summer school for students interested in learning more about Brazil. The lectures will be in English. See the program below:

Lecture 1 (07/03) - A short history of Brazil
Lecture 2 (07/04) - Brazilian geography
Lecture 3 (07/05) - Brazilian society
Lecture 4 (07/06) - An introduction to Brazilian culture
Field Trip (07/07) - Visit to Inhotim
Lecture 5 (07/10) - Brazilian law
Lecture 6 (07/11) - Foundations of the Brazilian political system
Lecture 7 (07/12) - Brazilian economy
Lecture 8 (07/13) - Key aspects of Brazilian foreign relations
Field trip (07/14) - Visit to Ouro Preto
+20 hours of Portuguese for Foreigners (afternoon)
Extra-classroom activities: Brazilian movies; Seminars on selected topics.

There will be no tuition fees for the courses. Accommodation and meals will also be provided for all students selected to the Summer School. Applications are due April 13th, 2017.
