Join us in welcoming Professor Jacob Trotter as he officially joins the staff at Founders Seminary, where he serves as Assistant Professor of Historical Theology.

Dr. Tom Ascol, President of Founders Seminary, shared, “I am delighted that the Lord has enabled us to add Jacob Trotter to the Founders Seminary faculty! He is a godly, humble, and faithful churchman and a rigorous historical theologian. Jacob has proven himself to be a courageous and dedicated scholar who will bless our students not only in the classroom but also by his example.”

Professor Trotter said, “It is a joy to officially join the work of Founders Seminary. Serving alongside a team of men marked by true conviction and godliness is a rare privilege.”

This semester, Professor Trotter is teaching Patristic Fathers, a course that investigates the main theological issues, theologians, and religious movements in the early church from the Apostolic Fathers to Augustine.

He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, The Master's Seminary (MDiv), and Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary (ThM). He is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Aberdeen. Trotter previously served as an adjunct professor at Founders Seminary, and he and his wife, Julie, moved to Cape Coral, Florida, last year.

Pray for Professor Trotter in his new role as he officially joins the seminary staff.

“But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” – Isaiah 53:5-6

David Mitzenmacher, Associate Professor of Applied Theology, is teaching Ethics for Pastoral Ministry this semester. This course introduces students to the field of Christian ethics and pays particular attention to the role of the pastor as a moral theologian. Throughout the semester, students will engage Scripture and the Christian moral tradition to understand the major dimensions of Christian ethical reasoning and their relevance to pastoral ministry.

Regarding this course, David Mitzenmacher shared, “The God who speaks in Scripture is also the God who made man and the world. Christian moral claims therefore cohere with reality—with what Scripture commands, what creation reveals, what human nature requires, and what genuinely promotes human flourishing—because all have the same divine Author.”

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.” – John 3:16-17

This past Spring, Dr. Tom Ascol, President and Professor of Pastoral Theology, taught Ecclesiology, a class that considers the biblical foundations, theological concerns, historical development, and practical responsibilities with particular emphasis on the role of local churches in the post-modern world.

Followers of the “congregational way,” Baptists have worked to develop a theologically integrated ecclesiology, and this course explores the contours of that development by introducing the nature and work of the church.

“The primary distinctive of Baptists and our greatest contribution to the Protestant and evangelical cause is our ecclesiology,” Dr. Ascol shared regarding this course.
