15th Annual Children’s Environmental Art Contest
Learn about Monarch Butterflies and ways to protect them
All children in Lee County ages 5 to 12 are invited to participate in the 15th Annual Children’s Environmental Art Contest “Coloring the Earth.” Organized by Friends of the Cape Coral Library, the theme for 2020-2021 is Save the Monarch Butterfly and ways to protect this precious species from pesticides, herbicides, habitat loss and other main threats.
Originally scheduled for 2020 but postponed due to Covid-19, the contest presents new features this year. So what is new? All entries MUST be mailed to the Friends instead of being submitted to the entry box in Library Youth Services. Please do NOT turn in entries to the public library. So mail or drop off entries to a specific address that will be provided to you by emailing the Art Contest Chair at [email protected]. Also for the first time, the Friends added this year a new age category (5-6 years old) and the awards presentation will be held virtually.
Winners will be selected from four age categories: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. There will be five awards for each age group with certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, as well as for two honorable mentions. Winning artwork will be posted on our website www.capefriends.org. Cheryl Anderson of Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife will be our keynote speaker at the Virtual Awards Presentation to be held on Wednesday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. (Details TBA).
