Ship 26 had a great opportunity to work with Troop 66 as they began their Small Boat Sailing Merit Badge!
Jedrek, Eirik, and Mr. Bowington attended the troop meeting to introduce the Scouts to some of the fundamentals of sailing. Eirik taught the parts of a sailboat, while Jedrek covered sailing knots and basic marlinespike seamanship. Mr. Bowington helped oversee the training and supported the Scouts throughout the evening.
The youth were very engaged, asked great questions, and were especially excited to start learning skills they will soon be able to use on the water.
This training is just the beginning! On September 20, Ship 26 has prepared a Sailing Day at Canyon Lake where the Scouts will have the opportunity to put these skills into practice, learn more about sailing, and experience being on the water firsthand.
We are excited to continue working with Troop 66 and helping introduce more youth to sailing, seamanship, leadership, and the opportunities available through Sea Scouts.
If you or someone you know is interested in sailing, learning new maritime skills, leadership opportunities, and adventures on the water, we would love to tell you more about Sea Scout Ship 26!
Great job to everyone who helped make the training a success. We’re looking forward to seeing Troop 66 out on the water for Sailing Day! ⛵⚓
