Yesterday afternoon Canute firefighters responded to a large grass fire near Butler to mutual aid with our surrounding departments. We got the privilege to sit back for a few minutes and watch the air tankers do their work!

On January 20th, our crews responded to a call that turned into a very special moment, the delivery of a baby at home. Recently, the family stopped by the station to visit and meet the crew who helped welcome their newest addition into the world.

Firefighter/EMT Newcomb and Paramedic Sills had the honor of assisting with the delivery, but the true strength and determination on display that day came from the mother, who did an incredible job bringing her child safely into the world.

Our firefighters and paramedics never know what a shift will bring, but they train for every possibility and are always ready to serve this community in whatever way is needed. Moments like this are a reminder of why we do what we do.

We appreciate the family for stopping by and allowing us to share in this special memory.

If you have been wondering whose big red fire truck has been running around town, well it’s ours! It’s been about a 3 year process with Broad Brook Fire Dept in Connecticut but we finally got the deal done and needless to say we couldn’t be happier. If you’ve hung around Canute long enough you’ll know our old ET-139 that we also got from Broad Brook in 2001. So some would say this has been a 25 year old relationship! This truck we have now is also known as ET-139, a 2001 HME pumper. One of the fireman from Broad Brook wanted to see their old truck return home where it was stationed for many years. So we made a deal and got the new one from them that replaced it years ago. Pretty cool how it all worked out! Here’s some pictures to show you!
