We want to make everyone aware of recent coyote activity in our community.
Unfortunately, we have
received a report that one of our residents lost a pet due to a coyote attack. Given this incident, we urge all residents to be extremely vigilant in safeguarding themselves, their families, and their pets. Coyotes are highly adaptable and can be found in both rural and suburban areas. They may be drawn to communities where food sources are readily available, including unsecured trash, pet
food left outdoors, or unattended small pets.
For your safety and the protection of your property and pets, we encourage you to review the helpful resources provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
(FWC). These materials include safety tips, prevention strategies, and informative videos on
coexisting with coyotes: FWC Coyote Resources: Coyotes | FWC Key Safety Tips from FWC:
• Supervise Pets: Keep cats indoors and dogs on a leash, especially during dawn and dusk when coyotes are most active.
• Secure Food Sources: Store trash in secure containers and do not leave pet food outdoors.
• Remove Attractants: Pick up fallen fruit, clean up bird seed spills, and secure compost bins.
• Avoid Approaching Coyotes: If you encounter a coyote, do not feed or try to interact with it. Make loud noises, wave your arms, or use a whistle to encourage it to leave.
• Report Unusual Behavior: Contact FWC or local animal control if you observe aggressive or sick behavior in wildlife.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for working together to keep our community safe.
