TikTok-aka_yyo Sister Kimberly Dowe presided over the meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to determine the feasibility of establishing a graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., in the Canton area. After some discussion, the members

present were in favor of proceeding with the goal to establish a graduate chapter in Canton. The Tri County Pearls was the name decided for the interest group. For the next three years, the group conducted service projects in and around Canton. On January 24, 1998, at 3:00p.m., Upsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter was chartered by the Regional Director Vanessa Rogers Long at the Canton Community Center in the Green Room and was written into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, history as chapter number 967. Charter members are: Michelle Bell, Cathy Baylor Brumfield, Teresa Burrell, Cheryl Scott-Davis, Nina Seals Dawson, Kimberly Dowe Davis, Carolyn Brown Dukes, Mary Gates, Rena Johnson Poston, Monique Jones, Tammie Lawrence, Tressa Almore Matthews, Shirley Green Mays, Felicia Miller, Jacqueline Parker, Alice Julious Scott, Audra Shirley, Tamara Scott Whitehead and Camille Scales Young.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Upsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter recently conducted two voter registration drives. On Friday, August 21, 2026, a voter registration drive was held at Ridgeland High School during the football jamboree. Attendees were given literature to promote voter education and provided the registration application. On Sunday, August 23, 2026, another voter registration drive was held at Priestly Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Canton, MS. Information was provided on voter registration deadlines and the critical need to update physical addresses before the October 5, 2026, deadline for the November elections. Upsilon Upsilon Omega is committed to increasing awareness and education of the importance of voting.

Today, the ladies of the Upsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter and some amazing volunteer guests teamed up for a day of community impact.
Together, we rolled up our sleeves to serve our community and support our local children:
• 2 miles of the Nissan Parkway cleared.
• 27 bags of trash and debris removed.
• Multiple bins filled with school supplies like notebooks, pens, and pencils.

A massive thank you to everyone who came out, worked hard, and showed up for our community's youth! 🩷💚
