It's National Mentoring Month and today we celebrate Officer LaMar Sharpe, founder of the Be A Better Me Foundation. Lamar became passionate about mentoring through his work with incarcerated youth when working at a juvenile detention facility. Through the programming of his foundation, his role as a football coach, and his work in community policing with the Canton Police Department (Ohio), he has worked hard to build trusting relationships with young people across the city. We define mentoring as "showing up for young people". It's not unusual to see Lamar showing up in "family photos" of the young people who he loves and who love him in return, joining for graduations, birthdays, and even for the father-daughter dance at the Stark County Debutante Cotillion 2022. You can learn more about Lamar and the team at Be A Better Me by visiting https://beabetterme.org/. Thank you, Lamar, for all you do for young people in Stark County!
