🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

This photo shows one of the river gauge monitors installed on the bridges at Chinquapin Rd. and Burnette Cove Rd. In (Canton) Cruso,NC. These gauges are a critical part of the new high-water warning system for our community and are powered by solar panels.

Unfortunately, both solar panels have been stolen within the last few weeks. This has delayed getting the system fully operational and, once live, theft or tampering could directly impact our ability to warn the community during high-water events.

We know folks are out at all hours. If you see anyone,especially at night,tampering with a river gauge or siren pole, please contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately. These systems are there to protect lives.

Important note:
There will be authorized personnel working on the gauges and poles in the coming weeks, and this work will take place during daylight hours only.

If you see something suspicious after hours,say something.
This system belongs to all of us, and it’s only effective if it’s protected.

For the SAFETY of COMMUNITY MEMBERS and STAFF, Blue Collar Relief Community & Disaster Assistance will be CLOSED to the public today, MONDAY 2/2/26.

Snow and ice are still covering the pickup area, and SAFETY remains our top priority.
Propane can still be scheduled for pick up at the gate.

BLUE COLLAR RELIEF and Operation Rising Sun will continue providing emergency services to those unable to travel safely. Please use the contact information below to schedule propane pick up(12AM-4PM) or for emergency needs.

We will continue working diligently to serve our community as effectively and efficiently as possible, carefully considering the urgency and safety of each situation that arises.

Regular on-site operations will resume as soon as conditions safely permit.

Community Distribution Announcement

On TUESDAY, JANUARY 13th, 2026, Blue Collar Relief Community & Disaster Assistance will be distributing coats, toboggans, gloves, hygiene products, and other essential supplies at the facility. across from:

9072 CRUSO RD in CANTON NC.
12PM-5:30PM or until we run out.

This distribution is open to anyone in the community who is in need. No referrals or qualifications are required,if you need assistance, please come.

Our mission is to ensure our neighbors stay warm, safe, and supported during the winter months. We are here to help.

For additional needs or questions, please speak with a BLUE COLLAR RELIEF staff member on site.

Empty tanks must be traded for full 20 lb cylinders

Fire wood can be picked up at the facility. This is a free ministry so please be mindful of others using this service.

You are invited to gather firewood for personal use on the Pisgah National Forest until December 2026.

Hurricane Helene left a significant amount of woody debris in our forest, which creates a heightened risk of wildfire. You can help mitigate this risk by collecting downed wood for personal use. Learn more about specific rules on collecting firewood here:

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM ALL OF US AT Blue Collar Relief Community & Disaster Assistance, BLUE COLLAR RELIEF and Drifter Ministries!

As many offices and agencies closed for Christmas Eve, one local nonprofit kept its doors open, continuing a mission it says didn't end when the storm passed.
