Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit founded in 1999 to address the growing problem of children from low-income communities entering kindergarten without basic early literacy skills and school readiness. By mailing a new, developmentally-appropriate book every month to children, birth to five, and providing parents with support material to encourage a language-rich envi

ronment in the home, we help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. Our program is available at no cost to children from families of all income levels who live in participating areas. Children who reside outside of our participating areas can be a part of our unique program through our Ferst Readers subscription program. Ferst Readers is a thoughtful way to give the gift every child deserves – a lifetime love of reading and a foundation for a bright future through literacy.
