The Cherokee County 911 Foundation is proud to sponsor this year’s Cherokee County E 9-1-1, Georgia scarecrow at The Mill on Etowah!

This year’s display honors our local public service agencies and features a familiar face, Chief Marshal Dana Lloyd!

We think her scarecrow look-alike is pretty spot-on! 😃

Stop by The Mill on Etowah, check out the display, and cast your vote!

All proceeds benefit The Children’s Haven, supporting children in Cherokee County impacted by abuse, neglect, and foster care.

Georgia Voters: You’ll See a 9-1-1 Question on the November Ballot.

This November, Georgia voters will have the opportunity to vote on a proposed constitutional amendment related to the future of 9-1-1 funding in our state.

Georgia House Resolution 1243 (HR 1243) would authorize the Georgia General Assembly to create a dedicated Georgia Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) Fund.

So, what does that actually mean?

First, an important point:

👉 This amendment does NOT increase the current 9-1-1 fee. The current fee remains $1.50 per month.

If approved by voters, the amendment would allow Georgia to establish a non-lapsing fund dedicated specifically to 9-1-1. Money placed into that fund could only be used for 9-1-1 purposes and would remain available from year to year rather than expiring at the end of a budget cycle.

The fund could support things such as:
📡 9-1-1 infrastructure and system upgrades
☎️ 9-1-1 operations and facilities
👥 9-1-1 workforce support
💻 Georgia’s transition to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911)

NG911 is an important part of modernizing emergency communications and ensuring Georgia’s 9-1-1 centers have the technology, infrastructure, and resources necessary to serve their communities now and in the future.

There are still details that would come later. HR 1243 itself does not determine how the fund will be managed or what money will ultimately be deposited into it. Those decisions would require future legislation.

Georgia voters will make the decision on this constitutional amendment in the November 2026 General Election.

We encourage everyone to learn about the measure before Election Day. The attached one-page guide from the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority (GECA) provides a quick overview of what HR 1243 would — and would not — do.

📎 Take a few minutes to read it, ask questions, and be informed before you vote.
