Kensuke Yamada, guest artist at Peter’s Valley School of craft, presented a great workshop! He balanced hand building, demo, instruction, critique along with glaze test tiles and raku while working alongside of us students. Here are two of my coiled sculptures. The one on the right is open at the top so I can use it as a planter.

Open Pot Shop Hours are studio times without a scheduled class. It’s a great opportunity for students from each of the various classes and guild members to work alongside of each other to gain inspiration, trade tips and practice skills. Micah Raminger is enrolled in the Independent study program. This short video (avoiding student activity and chatter 😊) shows Micah centering clay on the wheel and then starting to open the center of the clay. Nice work Micah!

Kiln loading time! Steady hands and watchful eyes help to keep the kiln shelves level and the glazed pieces snugged together without touching. Guild members Paulette Bartenstein and Teresa Marinakis are shown as they start another row of shelves. They are carefully placing the shelf on top of four kiln posts, so that the shelf won’t touch the work below. Awesome teamwork ladies; thank you!!

Introducing guild apprentice Kassie Meyer! She is enjoying taking ceramic classes and also being a pot shop assistant, which is helping her easily complete the required apprenticeship checklist. Kassie has a fun style and a flare for glazing. Kassie stated springtime has her thinking planters. 😊
