Locally heavy rainfall will be possible late this afternoon into late tonight across the forecast area. Heavy rain rates could lead to excessive runoff, rapid rises on small streams, and isolated areas of flash flooding.

BLACK BEAR ALERT ⚠️

Two nights in a row, a bear has killed our chickens. We have contacted Haywood County Wildlife agencies. A report has been made and they are aware. They asked that I post this to the community page to make the community aware of the danger. Please take in all trash, bird feeders, feed, or other food that may attract wildlife, or put it in a bear-proof trash container. Keep doors to vehicles and homes locked, as bears are known to open doors. Watch small animals and livestock. If you see the bear, stay inside until it is gone to investigate. If it destroys or kills any livestock, call the Haywood County Wildlife Center at 828-490-6751.

Please do not feed bears or any wildlife. It is not good for the animals or safe for you and your neighbors.

Heads up for a traffic shift impacting our community!

Important message from NCDOT.

Wright Brothers Construction will be working along I-40 East near Champion Drive, exit 31, to shift the eastbound lanes beginning Monday, June 8 through Thursday, June 11. The I-40 East off-ramp and on-ramp at exit 31 will be closed and there will be single lane closures along I-40 East, starting at 7:00 pm Monday, June 8 through Thursday, June 11. The work should be completed by late afternoon Thursday, June 11 with all lane closures removed and both ramps open.

• I-40 East off-ramp traffic will follow the detour to exit 33 back to I-40 West to exit 31.
• I-40 East on -ramp traffic will follow the detour using I-40 West to exit 27 and back to I-40 East.

Please join us for our monthly self-select MANNA food drive this Wednesday, June 3rd at 9am. Remember to bring your own boxes/bags. Volunteers are always welcome and should arrive at 8am to help set up and unload for the event.
