EVERYONE must take the New Youth Protection Training (YPT2)…Don’t Wait, Act Now!!!
New Youth Protection Training (YPT2)
The BSA National Office has announced the implementation of the new Youth Protection training. From now on it will be referred to as YPT2. The prior version of the BSA’s Youth Protection trainings are no longer available. YPT2 replaces other Youth Protection trainings and is required for ALL BSA programs.
By November 1, 2018, all new and currently registered leaders will be required to complete the updated training (YPT2). The enhanced and updated content will allow leaders and councils to comply with all current legal requirements. While this may be inconvenient for some, it reflects the BSA’s commitment to the safety of all youth.
• Adults accompanying units on activities who are present at the activity for 72 hours or more, must also take Youth Protection Training (YPT2). The 72 hours need not be consecutive.
• New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training (YPT2) prior to completing the registration process.
• Units cannot re-charter unless all unit leaders have completed Youth Protection Training (YPT2) within two years.
• Youth Protection Training (YPT2) is required for all adult program “participants”. Adult program participants are those that are 18 years or older in Venturing and Exploring. As with adults, they must complete adult Youth Protection Training (YPT2) before submitting their adult application.
To take the training, follow these steps:
• First log in to my.scouting.org.
• Once you have successfully logged in, click on the drop-down menu in the top left corner and select “My Dashboard”.
• Next, click “Take Course” under Youth Protection Training Certification.
• This will bring you to a new webpage where you will scroll down and click on the Youth Protection logo.
• Click on “Youth Protection Training – Mandatory” and you can begin working on the modules to complete YPT2.
***Note: There are three modules with a YPT2 certification test at the end. All three modules must be completed and the test passed before it will give you a completed certificate.
Additional information:
• Work best with Google Chrome or IE 11
• Stay away from “Microsoft Edge”
• Lots of issues with using Mac’s – SOME people can make it work and some can’t; even if works most not showing as completed at the end. National says there is nothing they can do about it – sorry.
Thank you all for your commitment to the safety of our youth.
And remember... every youth deserves a trained leader!
