Update from Midlothian Fire Department – Thank You for Helping Us Search for Riggs******

It is with heavy hearts that we share Riggs has been located. Sadly, he was struck by a vehicle and did not survive.

While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we are incredibly thankful for the overwhelming support from our community. From those who helped search, shared posts, handed out flyers, made donations, or simply kept Riggs in their thoughts—your kindness and compassion meant the world to us.

Riggs was more than just a station dog—he was part of our family. We will miss him deeply.

Thank you again, Midlothian, for standing with us.

We are still Missing Riggs. In hopes of encouraging his safe return, THE REWARD HAS INCREASED TO $2,500, thanks to the kindness and generosity of Car Pro Radio Network, which has aired on WBAP radio for 23 years.

*****UPDATE – Help Us Bring Riggs Home******
May 4, 2025 @ 3:30pm

We’re incredibly grateful to Carrie Butterfield and her tracking dog, Bullet, who generously donated their time and efforts to help us search for Riggs.

Our station cameras last saw Riggs around 2:45 PM on Friday, heading toward Highway 287. A passerby reported seeing him near the on-ramp around 3:00 PM. Carrie and Bullet were able to track Riggs to that same area before the scent trail disappeared.

We also received a report that a small black SUV was seen attempting to stop and possibly pick up Riggs around that time. We’re not making any assumptions, but we would greatly appreciate any information about this vehicle or the person driving it. It may be someone who was simply trying to help.

If you know anything that could help, please contact Fire Station 1 at 469-672-0920 immediately.

Thank you again to everyone who continues to support the search—we’re doing everything we can to bring Riggs home safely.

***UPDATE***

We are still missing Riggs! A $1,000 reward has been offered for anyone who can safely return Riggs!

May your days be filled with holiday magic and love. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of holidays this season.

Happy Alive Day Retired K9 Dennis‼️
Today is the anniversary of when this K9 warrior almost lost his life to multiple gunshot wounds.

On December 3, 2020 K9 Dennis was shot in the face and chest while assisting his handler and other officers clear a dwelling. That night, as Dennis turned a corner to head down to clear a closet at the end of a hallway, multiple shots rang out striking him in the face and chest. However, Dennis did not go down, and his handler, Ofc Jerry Happeny, was able to pull Dennis back to him using his long line.

K9 Dennis undoubtedly saved Officer and civilian lives that December night in 2020. Dennis, leading the way as he always did, took the rounds intended for his human counterparts and lived.

As the result of the quick thinking of his handler, Dennis was rushed to the vet and later made a full recovery. In fact, this little badass was back to work at the Phoenix Police Department less than one month later. There is truly no stopping this amazing beast.

Dennis has since retired and is enjoying the good life at home with Ofc Happeny, the Happeny family and his new K9 brother, Speedy. He is also a member of the pack!

K9 Dennis is truly a hero to us and countless others, both working and in retirement.

In fact, K9 Dennis was the inspiration for K9s of Valor to start donating ballistic vests to K9s around the country. Seeing Dennis take those bullets was something we wanted to help prevent from ever happening again. Thus, our mission to vest K9s began. In fact, we were able to quickly vest the entire Phoenix K9 Unit, as well as almost every K9 Unit in Maricopa County and the surrounding areas in only a couple of years. People were and continue to be inspired by K9 Dennis and his actions.

K9 Dennis' bravery and selflessness that night has been the foundation for hundreds of K9s receiving their K9 Storm Inc vests around the country. We are proud to call K9 Dennis one of K9 Ambassadors and a friend.

Happy Alive Day K9 Dennis! You are a force to be reckoned with and continue to make a huge impact on the K9 community, even in retirement. We love you and are honored to be a part of your life.

K9s of Valor will be ceasing non-profit operations effective December 31st, 2024 and additional information will be announced soon. The remaining care packages and kits for K9s will be sent out within the next three weeks as we wrap up the year.

We will continue to post the amazing stories of the K9s across the country that help keep us all safe and share information on how to support them through other non profit organizations dedicated to helping K9s. However, we will not be continuing as a nonprofit after the end of the year.

We have been able to donate thousands of trauma, narcan kits, hot n pop heat alarms, care packages, supplies, food and bullet resistant vests to K9s across the country. K9s of Valor was founded to help support police K9s across the country and without your support, none of this would have been possible. Thank you to all of our amazing supporters for making this happen.

Thank you to Christina for your dedication and service to supporting K9s across the country and making an incredible difference across the country to K9 teams.

If you have an outstanding order pending or are a K9 team that reached out for a narcan/trauma kit that was granted, please email [email protected] for assistance.

Thank you for all of your support.

Friends and Colleagues,
I am writing to you today to announce my departure from K9s of Valor. While I have thoroughly enjoyed helping build the organization into what it is today, it is time for me to move on and start my own non-profit. It is a bit daunting to think about starting all over on my own, but if this past year has taught me anything, it is that tomorrow isn't promised, and you have to follow your dreams now.

It has been an honor and a pleasure working with all of you in my current role here at K9s of Valor. We've shared the best of times and victories, as well as the lowest of our lows together. We've helped save lives and protect countless K9 teams together, and for that, I will be eternally grateful. Thank you all for allowing me to be a part of your lives. I am so proud to know each and every one of you and call so many of you friends.

From a business and monetary standpoint, nothing will change. Nate King, the K9s of Valor founder, is and always has been the only person with access to the organizations money and merchandise. You can still contact him directly at [email protected] with any and all questions.

I will be closing the Amazon and Chewy Wish Lists and dedicating the next couple of weeks to shipping out all of your donated goods to teams across the nation. I do not know if K9s of Valor will choose to re-open the lists at some point, nor do I know their plans for the future as a whole. All of those questions can be directed to Nate King at [email protected].

Again, it has been an honor working with all of you, and I look forward to working with you in the future in my new role.

I will be available via direct messages on this platform and my work email for a little while longer as I close out all of my current projects. If you are a handler who is in need of assistance for your K9 partner, I highly recommend you reach out to one of the other amazing organizations within the K9 community.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season, and I look forward to our last couple of weeks together here at K9s of Valor.

Sincerely,
Christina M. Roof

11/26/2024

The hardest part about loving a dog is knowing that one day, you’ll have to say goodbye. From the moment they come into your life, you know their time is limited, but you push that thought away, pretending the day will never come. You invest your heart in them, share the quiet mornings, the playful afternoons, the long walks that seem endless. They become more than just a part of your life—they become a part of you.

And then that day comes.

On the day my dog died, I sat with him, the way he’d sat with me so many times before, through storms and silences and all the messy parts of life. His eyes met mine, and there was something in them—something steady, something that said it was okay, even if I wasn’t ready. I held him close, my hand finding its usual spot on his head, and I realized that all he wanted, all he’d ever wanted, was to be near me.

When the time came, it wasn’t loud or dramatic—it was quiet, soft, the way he always moved through the world, with a kind of grace I’ll never understand. And when he was gone, the space he left behind was unbearable, like losing a part of myself, a part I regained with him. But in that space, I also felt something else—every memory, every moment, all the love he’d given without asking for anything in return.

You say goodbye, knowing you’ll carry the weight of their absence forever. The house feels emptier, your routines shift, and you keep looking for them out of habit. But the love they left behind doesn’t disappear. It stays with you, woven into your heart, a constant reminder of the joy, loyalty, and comfort they brought. It’s a bittersweet truth—loving a dog means eventually saying goodbye, but their love leaves an imprint that lasts long after they’re gone.

On the last day of my dog’s life, he reminded me of what love really is: simple, steady, and unforgettable. It was only through him that I finally understood that not all good things are meant to last forever but also how those same good things shape us in ways that last a lifetime.

You see, dogs never live ong enough. It is their only fault, really. Until we meet again dear friend.

Landon Roof
April 1, 2011 - November 16, 2024
A part of my heart died last night.

"When you love somebody, you trade souls with ‘em. They get a piece of yours, and you get a piece of theirs. But when your love dies, a little piece of you dies with ‘em. That’s why you hurt so bad. But that little piece of him is still inside you, and he can use your eyes to see the world."

For those of you who knew Landon, you knew he was a gentle soul and as loving and selfless as they come. Sadly, the unthinkable happened last night, and an unknown tumor on his heart ruptured. I rushed him to the ER vet, where I had to make the hardest decision of my life.

And last night as the vet staff rolled him into the family room so I could lay on the ground with him while they did the injection, he decided he didn't want his Mom to have to make that decision. As soon as they got him in the room on the gerny, I laid my face next to him, whispered that I loved him, thanked him for changing my life and told him it was OK to go. He let out a loving grumble and passed there in my arms.

This was Landon's final act of kindness to me. He didn't make me have to make the choice for euthanasia. He simply went to God on his own to spare me. I love him more than I have the words to express. Thank you for almost 14 amazing years, good boy.

Thank you all for the kind messages today. It truly means a lot to me. Landon was the very first K9s of Valor Ambassador and my soul dog.

Rest Easy Easy Landon ♥️ Mommy will always love you. Thank you all for loving him. It means more to me than you guys will ever know.

Please join us in keeping our dear friends Deputy Miller and K9 Roki of the in your thoughts and prayers as they both recover after being hit by a drunk driver. Deputy Miller and were on their way home from training a couple of nights ago when a drunk driver slammed into their vehicle going 40 MPH. Deputy Miller's vehicle was not moving at the time they were hit, and his vehicle was completely totaled.

arrived quickly on scene and assisted both Deputy Miller and Riko, and took the drunk driver into custody. CHP told Deputy Miller they believe the only reason K9 Roki is still alive is because his insert took the brunt of the impact, undoubtedly saving Roki's life.

Deputy Miller and Roki both have bumps and bruises, but will make a full recovery and return to work soon.

We would like to send our thanks to for helping our friends out and to for providing such an amazing life-saving insert.

Get well soon you two! We are so glad you are both OK! 💪🐾🐾

EOW: 11-13-2024
The Coweta County GA Sheriff's Office and the Henderson family are mourning the loss of one of their own, K9 Titan. Titan was killed in the line of duty last night while assisting deputies in the apprehension of fleeing suspect after a high-speed pursuit.

The Sheriff's Office stated, "The Deputy (Henderson) performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle and deployed K-9 Titan to assist in apprehending the driver. The driver opened fire in the direction of the deputy and K-9 Titan. K-9 Titan was struck multiple times and pronounced dead on the scene. The deputy was struck multiple times, suffering graze wounds to different locations. The deputy was transported to the hospital and released. He should make a full recovery,

The deputy returned fire on the driver, striking him multiple times. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene."

K9 Titan served with the department for 5 years. During that time, he had over 100 deployments. He successfully located multiple missing persons, identified illegal narcotics, as well as assisted in the successful apprehension of multiple suspects. He made a big impact in his community and made it a safer place to live.

K9 Titan and Deputy Henderson had just recently been partnered. The team graduated from Basic Dual Purpose Hamdler School on November 1, 2024.

Titan made the ultimate sacrifice last night, and because he did, every member of law enforcement present were able to go to their families. We are all forever grateful for his valor.

Please join us in keeping Deputy Henderson, the Henderson family, Titan's first handler and everyone at CCSO in your thoughts and prayers.

Rest Easy K9 Titan 🇺🇸
We will never forget you good boy.
